Well, what a glorious day at the lake — so peaceful you could almost hear the fish laughing at us from underneath the surface. When I wandered round later this afternoon there were just two fishermen there, which is very typical: either the lake is so quiet you start wondering if everyone has been abducted, or there are six of you appearing at once like a fishing flash mob. No in-between, obviously.
Fish were active at the weekend, but seemed quieter during the week, but that is part of the strange magic of the place. One minute it looks like a nature documentary called The Silent Lake, and the next minute someone is pulling something out and everyone suddenly remembers why they came.
I just wanted to say a really big thank you to you all. I genuinely enjoy walking round the lake again, catching up with everyone, and pretending I know exactly what I am doing at all times. It is lovely to see the place being used and looked after, and I really appreciate the friendly chats, the patience, and the general good humour.
If there are any problems, please just let me know. I will be doing the usual toilet cleaning, bin emptying, and grass cutting over the weekend — basically the glamorous celebrity lifestyle I was always destined for.
And to those of you with fishing equipment near the grass: you know who you are. I will do my very best not to attack it with the mower this time. Still very sorry about that — no rods, reels, buckets, chairs, nets, or sandwiches will be harmed intentionally in the maintenance of this lake.
Anyway, thank you again for being such a great bunch. Wishing you all the very best — look after yourselves, enjoy the lake, and may your next catch be large enough to brag about but not so large that nobody believes you.
