🥋 Peter Murphy 2026 🥋
For the first time since 2018, the Peter Murphy Western Area Closed Competition made its return.
In this event, each competitor represented both their club and their county, with points earned through medals contributing towards the overall county title.
Devizes sent 5 judoka: Stanley, Finn, Dexter, Noah, and Katie. Every judoka fought with grit, determination, and resilience throughout the day.
🏅 Results:
🥉 Finn – Finn earned himself a well-deserved 3rd place, winning his second fight with a huge O-Goshi. On another day, Finn could easily have taken gold in this group, but he was unlucky in both his first and last fights.
🥉 Stanley – Stanley also came home with a 3rd place finish. He showed some fantastic ne-waza, including great escapes and an excellent hold-down in his second fight.
🥉 Dexter – This was Dexter’s first judo event, so it was always going to be an uphill battle. In a group of 7, he had 6 tough fights. Despite being the youngest in the group by quite some way, Dexter showed a fantastic attitude throughout, never giving up and making every contest competitive.
🥈 Katie – Katie had to fight up an age band today as there was nobody available in her own category. She came up against a skilled and experienced competitor but still managed to score in 2 out of her 3 contests.
🥉 Noah – Similar to Katie, Noah was also moved up an age band, where he found himself facing blue and green belts. In his first fight, Noah defeated an experienced competitor, securing the win during golden score. He received several compliments from referees and coaches on how well he handled himself against older, higher-graded, and more experienced opponents.
Overall, it was a fantastic event and a brilliant experience for all our judoka.
A huge thank you to Simon Ward and his team for organising such a great competition.
