Stuck in a rut with your training and need accountability or do you just need to kickstart your fitness journey and follow a sustainable routine that actually works?

Folks I'm delighted to announce the return of - Transition Barbell Club - which will be held on Tuesday & Thursday evenings at 6pm in 4 week blocks - starting on Tuesday 18th February. Periodised olympic weightlifting programs will be tailored for regular attendees. Also compound barbell movements to improve all over strength will be coached at these sessions along with mobility drills to improve stability.

Performing a sn**ch or a clean & jerk is a full-body workout. A lot of calories are burned during these workouts in a short amount of time. Olympic lifts are a great way to decrease body fat, build muscle, increase strength and maximize your time strength training.

Olympic weightlifting produces some of the highest power outputs on any gym floor. Power, the product of strength and speed, is the key ingredient to helping people move in a more explosive manor. Incorporating these lifts into workouts is the most effective way to build power and speed.

These movements are versatile and can be also used to enhance high-intensity exercise endurance, recover more quickly and handle higher amounts of training.

The lifts help promote flexibility and stability.
Controlling a load throughout the ROM of all joints is key to preparing the body for the high forces encountered in sport.

Snatches and clean & jerks require precise coordination, rhythm, and timing. They make an athlete exert a force into the ground through a quick and coordinated "triple extension" of the ankle, knee, and hip, mirroring what happens in sprinting and jumping, the core components of most sports.

Many athletes find learning these complex movements with a barbell intriguing and the process of refining these skills keeps them focused on trying to hit bigger numbers in the long run.

Transition Derry is open 9 years today - I could not be prouder of how the gym is at the moment. Every year I say this because it’s true, I appreciate Transition more and more as each year goes by.

I think it’s safe to say that every single centimetre of Transition is being used effectively with the recent upgrades to the gym. The measuring tape was definitely out a few times in 2024. 😜

We offer woman’s only group sessions, small group PT sessions, Hyrox sessions for both male and female, lactate testing, PT sessions, olympic weightlifting programming, nutrition consultations & body fat % readings.

Thank you to all the coaches who work at Transition who help create a friendly environment for people to better themselves.

Strength - one of the 3 major building blocks for our Hyrox camp.

It has to be said that the strength element can easily be neglected when athletes are training for an aerobic event such as a Hyrox.

At Transition we put a huge emphasis on strength training especially if athletes are working towards the likes of a Hyrox event instead of being busted in every session which may make you feel good at the time but may have no real benefit on aerobic capacity in the long run and only increases the risk for fatigue and injury.

We will be working on mobility drills, compound lifts, Olympic weightlifting and other strength based specific Hyrox exercises which will improve power, flexibility & coordination.

We look forward to welcoming all our new Hyrox athletes on 7th January.

We are eagerly anticipating our new Transition Hyrox camp which is starting on 7th January.

Lots of people are asking what this Hyrox camp will involve..

It will run in 4 week blocks - 3 sessions per week - Tuesdays & Thursdays at 6pm & Saturdays at 10am.

There are 3 main elements of our Hyrox programme.

Strength, station technique & engine building.

We will be doing a post on each individual element over the coming days which will give people an indication as to how things will be done.

The formula we will be using is tried and tested with a lot of the top Hyrox athletes and we very much looking forward to coaching this and seeing the improvements from everyone.

With so many Hyrox events all over the island on a regular basis - it will be exciting to see people pushing themselves towards monthly or bi monthly sims to check on their progress. πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ
