“Every time we turn our heads the other way when we see the law flouted, when we tolerate what we know to be wrong, when we close our eyes and ears to the corrupt because we are too busy or too frightened when we fail to speak out, we strike a blow against freedom, decency and justice.”

It with deep regret that we have learned of the death of Joanne McCauley. Joanne was a member of City of Derry Boating Club for many years. She successfully represented the Club both as a cox and as a rower, winning many trophies. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.

Apology
City of Derry Boating Club apologises to all the health workers, who are fighting to control the Covid-19 outbreak because a Donegal member chose to ignore the covid restriction "Do Not Leave Your County unless travelling to work". He went to Co Armagh on Saturday to Row. The Boatclub strongly supports our health teams and deplores this action.

We are delighted to announce that Club Member, Andy Wells has been awarded the Presidents Prize, by Eamonn Colclough, at the recently held Rowing Ireland AGM.

The award recognises Andy’s long history of involvement and deep commitment to the development of rowing at QUBBC and QUBLBC, particularly with Novices.

In recent Years Andy has both rowed in BBC crews and supported rowing development in the Club.
We add our congratulations to all the others, and in so doing I feel it is appropriate to add a letter published by one of our members that recognise the massive contribution and impact Andy has had on local rowing careers, many of whom have gone on to great things!

‘Andy, The President’s award was as everyone has said very much deserved. I am only one of the very many who have benefitted from your love of the sport which you have so generously shared with any students or others who have shown an interest for so many years. Your optimism and enthusiasm were a great inspiration to me and my generation. Without your big vision and energy, the experience at Queens would have been so much poorer for me and the generations who followed. Enjoy this recognition of your huge contribution to rowing and to the lives of those whom you have inspired. Soon it will be back to the wet cold days on the river for which you get little thanks!! X’
