๐Ÿ†โšฝ 2010s CROWNED CHAMPIONS OF BILLY & SHEILA QUIGLEY CUP ๐Ÿ”ดโšซ๏ธ๐Ÿ†

Our 2010s played out a 1-1 draw before showing nerves of steel to win the trophy on penalties.

The first half was a tight affair with few clear-cut chances, but Newell came out a different side after the break, taking control of the game and playing some brilliant football. After creating several opportunities, Cian Griffin finally gave Newell the lead with his 7th goal in just 3 games.

Boscos refused to lie down and grabbed a late equaliser to send the game to a dramatic penalty shootout.

Ethan, Maz, Alfie and Nathan all stepped up and coolly converted their penalties, while goalkeeper Joel was the hero of the hour, producing two excellent saves to secure the victory and bring the trophy home to Newell.

A fantastic team performance from start to finish and a deserved reward for all the hard work put in by the players and coaches. Well done boys! ๐Ÿ”ดโšซ๏ธ๐Ÿ†

2016s All Ireland Cup, Dungannon ๐Ÿ”ดโšซ๏ธ

A brilliant day out for our 2016 boys as they competed against some of the islandโ€™s best players and teams.

In a two-league format of eight teams, our boys finished a very respectable 5th place, picking up victories over Maiden City and Cliftonville along the way.

They were narrowly beaten by just a single goal against League of Ireland champions Shamrock Rovers and Cork Cityโ€™s Leeside FC, who went on to become the two finalists in the tournament.

The boys progressed to the semi-final of the Plate, where they came up against local side CSA, only to lose out on penalties in the cruel nature of tournament football.

Despite that, our boys conducted themselves impeccably both on and off the pitch and left with their heads held high and smiles on their faces.

A big thank you to Aidan and Dungannon Swifts for hosting an excellent tournament. We hope to return next year.

Well done boys ๐Ÿ”ดโšซ๏ธ

What a game! ๐Ÿ‘

The 2010s showed incredible character and determination to come from behind and secure a thrilling 5โ€“4 victory over Oxford 2009s.

Despite dominating much of the first half, Newell found themselves 2โ€“1 down at the break, with Cian Griffin on target. Oxford extended their lead to 3โ€“1 early in the second half before Shay Smith pulled one back to keep Newell in the contest.

With 15 minutes remaining, Oxford made it 4โ€“2, but the boys refused to give up. Goals from Cian Griffin and Shay Smith brought Newell level at 4โ€“4 before Cian completed a superb hat-trick with the winning goal to complete a fantastic comeback.

A brilliant team performance and a fighting attitude from the boys. Well done everyone! ๐Ÿ”ดโšซ๏ธ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‘ Huge congratulations to Oisin Gallagher on another well-deserved call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad!

Fresh off his last minute winner in Kazakhstan last time out, Oisin and his Ireland team mates will take on Croatia and Qatar in the coming week.

It's fantastic to see Oisin back at his old stomping ground, putting in the hard work and sharpening his tools ahead of the upcoming Ireland camp.

Oisin was one of the very first players to come through the doors at Newell Academy, and seeing him return to his roots while continuing to represent his country is something everyone at the club is incredibly proud of.

A fantastic role model for all our young players, proving that hard work, dedication and belief can take you a long way.

Best of luck, Oisin we're always behind you! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ”ดโšซ๏ธ

โšซ๐Ÿ”ด Newell Academy 2015s Bounce Back in Style ๐Ÿ”ดโšซ

After last weekโ€™s disappointment, Newell Academy 2015s were determined to respond, but standing in their way was a talented Foyle Harps side who arrived at Bishops Field full of confidence. ๐Ÿน๐Ÿ€

The opening exchanges were evenly contested, with both teams battling hard for control. Newell perhaps enjoyed slightly more possession, but it was Foyle Harps who struck first when their midfielder unleashed a thunderous effort from around 25 yards that flew beyond the goalkeeper.

The setback sparked a response from Newell, who pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Despite creating pressure, Harpsโ€™ defence remained resolute and looked set to take their advantage into the interval. However, just before the break, Quigley once again demonstrated his knack for being in the right place at the right time, rising to meet a corner and finding the net to send the sides in level at half-time. โšฝ

Newell emerged for the second half looking a completely different team. Their passing was sharper, their movement more fluid, and they began putting together some excellent sequences of play. The Foyle Harps goalkeeper was in inspired form, producing a series of impressive saves to keep the scores level.

The breakthrough eventually arrived thanks to a moment of individual brilliance from McFeely. Picking up the ball in a crowded area, he danced through two challenges before drilling a low, powerful effort into the bottom corner to give Newell the lead. ๐Ÿš€

With Harps throwing bodies forward in search of an equaliser, Newell showed tremendous character and discipline. Nicell and Anderson were outstanding at the heart of the defence, standing firm under pressure and ensuring the three points would be coming back to Brooke Park.

A hard-fought victory against quality opposition and a fantastic response from the boys. ๐Ÿ‘โšซ๐Ÿ”ด

After a series of impressive performances in the D&D in recent weeks and after plenty of near misses, including the heartbreak of penalty shootout defeats at one-day tournaments, our young 2018s finally got over the line to become winners today at the M**f Feile Tournament! ๐Ÿ‘โšฝ

The boys continued to stay true to their footballing principles, building play from the back throughout the day. While the surface and reduced playing areas presented a challenge and perhaps prevented them from reaching their very best levels, they showed tremendous character, resilience and determination when it mattered most.

Newell progressed from a competitive group featuring Buncrana Hearts, Cockhill Celtic, Foyle Harps, Letterkenny Rovers Colts and Maiden City Colts to book their place in the Cup semi-final.

A tense and closely fought semi-final against Letterkenny Rovers was eventually decided by penalties, with the boys holding their nerve superbly to secure a 2-1 shootout victory. ๐Ÿ’ช

That set up a final against Omagh Town, and despite a scrappy encounter, goals from Caolan ร“g and Aodhan proved enough to bring the trophy home for Newell. ๐Ÿ†

A deserved success for this group of players who have worked so hard and shown great perseverance throughout . Congratulations boys on a well-deserved success!

Further Congratulations to Caolan ร“g who picked up the Player of the Tournament Award.

A busy and enjoyable weekend of football for our 2017s, who continued their development with some excellent performances across two days.

On Saturday, the boys travelled to the M**f Football Fรฉile and produced a fantastic run to reach the semi-finals. Along the way they won 5 of their 6 group games, recording victories over Foyle Harps Colts, Quigleyโ€™s Point Swifts, Buncrana Hearts, Kildrum Tigers and Newbuildings, with their only group stage defeat coming against Maiden City.

Their impressive tournament journey eventually came to an end in the semi-final against Convoy Arsenal, but the players can be immensely proud of their efforts throughout the day.

The action continued on Sunday as they faced a strong Core Soccer Academy side. After a very competitive first-half display, the boys found the pace of the weekend catching up with them and ran out of steam in the second half.

Overall, it was another hugely positive weekend with plenty of football, valuable learning experiences and some excellent performances from the squad.

Well done boys โšฝ

Our 2016s continued their positive progress with a hard-fought victory over Core Soccer in a competitive encounter this afternoon.

The opening half was a positive advert for youth football in this area, with both teams looking to play through each other and attack at speed.

The breakthrough came when Tom McClenaghan raced clear of the defence and showed great composure to finish beyond the Core goalkeeper, who produced an outstanding display throughout the game.

Newell doubled their advantage soon after through Josh Dobbins. The diminutive playmaker showcased his creativity and close control, wriggling his way into space on the edge of the box before applying a clinical finish.

The boys started the second half brightly, but Core Soccer pulled a goal back when a long ball into the area wasn't fully dealt with and their attacker was on hand to capitalise.

After a flowing first half, the game became more stretched as Core went forward quicker in search of an equaliser. Newell continued to create promising opportunities , only to be denied time and again by the impressive Core goalkeeper and some committed defending.

Another encouraging display by our 2016s in what was a competitive and entertaining game. Well done to all the players involved. ๐Ÿ”ดโšซ
