Sadly, our first European tour to France didn’t go as we had hoped. During Saturday’s semi-final, our full-back Kenan Ince suffered two serious injuries, resulting in surgery for a broken left arm and a broken right ankle. Kenan is still in hospital recovering and is hoping to return home later this week — we’re all keeping our fingers crossed for him.
Everyone at Deri U14’s and RFC is devastated, and we wish Kenan a speedy recovery and a safe journey home. He’s been with us for several years and has grown into an outstanding player, making this an enormous loss for the team. That said, Kenan’s first thoughts, even while in pain, were for his teammates — apologising and feeling he had let them down. That says everything about his character. His teammates, many in tears, gathered around him to reassure him that he’s not alone and that we’re all behind him.
We’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to Ruislip U14s and Penarth U14s, who came together to give Kenan a guard of honour as he left the field — clapping, cheering, and chanting his name. It was an incredibly emotional and inspiring moment to witness such sportsmanship and unity. The video messages from neighbouring teams wishing him well have also meant a great deal.
Kenan, we’re all with you — stay strong butty. ❤️💚
