Ok, so we can talk about one of the players today! Nilah said to me before the game, that her Dad predicted she would score today but she didnt believe him. Well I think her Dad should let me know these predictions in the future so I can pick the team around it. Is she going to score next week?

Nilah was untouchable today, she scored the first goal and then assisted the next 3 all in the first half. Playing on the right wing, her pace and crossing ability was exceptional.

Well done Nilah, keep that confidence up, you will be any fullback’s worst nightmare!

✨All of them✨

This is only our 3rd ever win as a team. Win or lose the girls always try their hardest and never put their heads down.

They have turned up to training and matches each week and learnt how to play this game we all love. Today was one of those games where it was a bit special and impossible for us to pick just one player as it would be unfair on all the others, it was 10/10 performances all over the pitch.

They have shown us now the standard they can play at, challenge is to keep that going!

Dereham 6 - Wymondham 0

Our last pre-season friendly before the season starts next week.

This is the best we have ever seen the girls play. I don't know if the they all had Weetabix for breakfast but something clicked with them today. Every one of them battled hard, in every position. The defence were rock solid, the midfield transitioned the ball well and the forwards were clinical in front of goal.

The first half the girls were relentless and scored 5 goals before half time. Team talk was a simple one - “same again please!”

Wymondham responded well at half time and the second half was back and forth between both teams with chances at both ends. A special mention to their keeper, who made great saves throughout the game but also made an incredible triple save to keep Cia out!

The Dereham girls pressure paid off in the end, with another goal for Leah who capped off an incredible performance with a hat-trick!

Not much more to say, keep going girls, your hard work each week is paying off!

Opposition player of the match

✨Eliza✨

A game of two halves for this player. The first half was not the best she has had in a Dereham shirt, however the second half was a different story. Save after save and goal kicks that are improving with each game.

The match ended with an incredible double save, where she saved one shot and pushed it across the goal and then she bravely threw herself in front of the ball stopping a certain goal.

Well done Eliza keep going!

What can I say about this player, she always gives us everything she has every game!
Today was no different, as she stood in for Evelyn as captain and led the team brilliantly. It's never easy to pick a team up and get them going when things are not going your way. Not only did she lead by example, with 2 goals and driving the team forward but we could also hear her encouraging the team with constant support.

Well done Ellie-Mai, a natural talent and looking forward to watching you play this season!

✨Dereham Magpies 3 - 6 Costessey Wolves ✨

Second pre-season friendly today and it was a tough battle against a strong and organised opposition.

The game started slow for both sides, with no real chances at either end. Then about half way through the first half the opposition kicked into gear and we had a crazy 10 minutes. Finding ourselves 4-0 down.

It's in these moments that you see the character in the team; to pick each other up and most importantly still enjoy themselves. We are proud of all the girls for their reaction and determination to not give up.

We ended the first half 4-1 with a cool finish from Ellie-Mai.

The second half was much improved and I will do the coaches trick of saying ‘it was an even half which ended 2-2!’ The girls put into practice a lot that we have trained with them; overlapping runs, attacking the ball and getting passes in.

Ellie-mai scored what she said was a “cross” but she needs to learn to claim those as a deliberate shot!

The final goal was scored by Reeva, with an excellent finish into the bottom left corner, across the keeper. She has come a long way in such a short space of time with the team and is doing a fantastic job in the midfield.

Opposition player of the game AND coaches player of the game.

✨Grace ✨

It was a tough one to pick today as there were stand out performances all over the pitch. But we felt that some recognition was deserved for our Grace.

She might be the youngest player in the team but she has never let that put her off. Always battling, always running and gives everything she has for the team.

Yesterday, you saw that all in action; playing the lone striker and never stopping, always putting the defenders under pressure. It's one of the hardest positions to play as you have to link up play, lead the press and then try and score as well. She was unlucky yesterday not to hit the back of the net, with all the effort she put in. She is a privilege to coach and watch each week, keep going Grace the goals will come!

🥅 We are back! ⚽️

After a well earned 6 week break with no training, tournaments or games, the girls were back in action in their first pre-season game of the season.

Travelling to the Nest to play against Taverham Tigers, who were our first ever opponents when we started last October!

Yesterday's game showed how far we have come, in what I believe was an extremely competitive and hard fought game. Both teams battled hard all over the pitch and with chances at both ends. Both keepers showed their class and kept the opposition out. We ended the first half 0-0.

Second half, Taverham came out strong and hit us with two well deserved goals. But credit to the magpies, their heads did not drop and they continued to battle. Sadly we didn't manage to create any chances in the final 15 minutes. Game ended 2-0 to Taverham.

I was extremely pleased with what I saw, and it is an excellent platform to build upon for the rest of pre-season.

Well done Magpies and Tigers!
