We fished Draycote for our final outing of the year. Cold windy day and it was not easy.

I (Clive Wilkins) had 9 to net with the best a stunning 5lb fish and 3 others crackers around 4lb mark. Fish are hard on the fry. Snakes, in olive and natural rabbit plus a couple on a white pearly comarant style fly. Fish on Di5, intermediate and floater. Half drifting half anchored off the top dam.

Found fish off the boat doc and by in flow.

Keith Smith had 3 with Mike Weaver and Ivan Cotterill had one each with lots lost. Andy managed to loose all his 4 hooked fish. Hard luck mate.

So not easy by any means but the fish were In great condition. Let's hope it still open at the end of the week.

Just fished DCACs Wilington lake today. Pretended I was on Grafham and fished a floater with 12 and 14 GRHEs and GRHE b***y on point. Lake has demon shrimp but did not see any about.

The lake is clear, the fish are feeding hard with 20ish to the net. Fish in the margins. So finally its fishing great again.

Just in time for a lock down.

We fished Grafham today from the bank and it was stunning. Kieth Smith won the annual bank match with a 70cm fish, best of an 8 fish bag! A great rainbow and resi PB. Top bagging Keith.

We all did well on the shrimp, I had 16 following a recount! With fish to 60 cm and a smaller 56cm fish! 3lb plus rainbows common. Best spots were hedge end and The seat. Floating lines and shrimp patterns as per box! Backing was seenπŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚πŸ™‚

Andy Biggs (4) and Mark Henderson (5) also had great days.

All fish returned to fight another day.

This fish was 4cm over the width of the net.

Oh and these too

Hi we had fished the Derby Fly Fishers September day out on our local Blithfield reservoir yesterday, the fish were hard on the fry in bright hot sunny conditions, with light winds. Kieth Smith did best and had 18 to the boat! He even caught before lunchtime. Sinking lines and mainly black fry pattern type flies were the order of the day, black bo***es and zoznkers, fished back on di3 and hang. The fish were stunning with many fish over 3lb caught.

Wow what a time to be on blithfield.

Rod average for us was over 11 on the day.

Club presently looking for new members, ideal club if you want to fish with friends on local midlands reservoirs.

Fished Rutland on Thursday, had a few (5) stock fish and one good one (3+) pulling on a DI3 around the lodge, but both arms and even the boils were devoid of fish, very odd, fish must all be on daphnia down deep. Went off the stockies to find better fish, bad call on the day.

Hi we fished a club outing at Draycote on Saturday, it clashed with an England qualifier so we had to hide for most of the day on or around the boils! Ray J and Clive W had 13 each with hardly a fish under 3lb, Ray released one at 5lb 2oz, I got spooled on the dry fly, when the rainbow jumped it was very big, sadly for me it eventually broke me! Fish on for at least 5 minutes, Gutted. The 6lb RIO I used for dries may not have been the wisest choice with the size of the slabs knocking about. Phil Webb and Keith Smith (best 5lb 2oz) also had 10 each, again mainly big fish 3lb+.

It was a 10MPH westerly wind, key areas to fish were in and around the boils, Rainbow Corner (England lads there all day) and the tower bank drifting down into Biggin also had plenty of fish around. Fish were up and down all day with fish to dries (big red and red cubes), nymphs, pearl Diawl Bach's 12s and pulling single hot head damsels on a 3 (hang it). Having said that Phil had most of his fish on a slow glass and lures.

Toft shallows has a big algae bloom and was not fished by most.

I and a few of the others have not caught fish of this average size and quantity for a while, + what a scrap truly superb.

Many thanks to Draycote team for a fab day.

Hi the club had a great annual boat match last weekend at Carsington, despite the very strong winds all of us caught fish, with many of the club doing double figures, plenty of fish for me on the buzzer, I however did have to go onto the slime line to keep some control of the flies. Top rod for the 6 best fish bag was Dave Tomlinson with 15lb 8oz. Plenty of browns also showing, at one point I caught four on the bounce a lost a 5th one, these were in the 2 to 3 lb class and good fish, all the browns went back so see them next year! Thanks to Carsington team who looked after us and provided a top venue.

Very lucky in the east mids at this time, not sure which of our local waters is fishing better Carsington or Blithfield, both are fishing fantastically well, but on the dries at Blith up the North arm, so for me Blithfield just edges it! but the stamp of fish is just bigger at Carsington....what a choice to have.
