The final Hunters home friendly of the season at Hembley delivered everything you could want from junior football with rain, goals, determination, and a fiercely competitive performance against an HSC Pumas side hungry for revenge after their defeat to the Hunters just two weeks earlier.
HSC started strong scoring twice in the opening ten minutes. But with substitutions to keep legs fresh, the Hunters regrouped brilliantly. What followed was an outstanding spell of football built on teamwork, communication, and commitment. Four excellent goals including a superb hat‑trick from Toby Collyer turned the game on its head, giving the Hunters a well‑earned two‑goal lead at half‑time.
The 2nd half saw the intensity rise further. Both teams created chances, with tackles, saves, and near‑misses at both ends. The HSC Pumas pushed hard and eventually levelled the match midway through the half, setting up a tense finish. A key turning point came when Roman Daykin who had played superbly and scored earlier in the game, picked up an injury. Combined with a couple of defensive moments, this shifted the momentum, allowing HSC to edge ahead and secure the win at the final whistle.
For the Hunters, this was a match of what ifs but also full of progress. Only 3 months ago, the Hunters travelled to HSC in the league and suffered a heavy defeat, creating barely a chance. Today, against HSC’s well organised and full strength squad, the Hunters not only fought back from 2–0 down but took control of the match for significant spells. On another day, without an injury and a couple of moments in our own box, the result could easily have gone the other way.
The coaches are incredibly proud of every player. The development, resilience, and team spirit shown right up to the final whistle were outstanding. This was a performance where every single Hunter earned a Merit award
for the display they put on.
Hunter of the match - Roman 🏆
Merit award - Toby ⭐️
