I’ve been running my business for 8 years now (hello nearly a decade - celebrations anyone?!) & here are 3 things I’ve learned as a small business owner.

Be consistent - whatever that looks like for your business. Sure, the business will ebb & flow, some months will be busier than others, but it’s important to remember that whatever your current season looks like, consistency has to be there.

Be original - this is a tricky one. It’s SO easy to jump on bandwagon’s and trends, but your audience will see straight through this. Remain authentically you & your audience will thank you for it.

Be grateful - no order goes unnoticed. I am so, so grateful for every like or comment on social media that leads me to an order or two.

Running a business is tough, but I am so grateful for my journey & I have met some amazing business owners along the way too. Thank you for allowing me to continue to pursue my dream.

A day in the life of me - a creative business founder.

My mornings look very similar, checking my to do list, replying to any enquiries & taking a morning stroll with my dog, Clover. After the morning admin, it’s time to get ready for my full-time job (yes, Betty Dream is currently just a side hustle that feels like another full time job).

Skip ahead to my lunch break & you’ll find me working on new campaigns for 2027 & beyond! Or you’ll catch me scrolling through instagram because sometimes I just need something else to occupy my mind!

In the evenings, I tend to go for a run or get to Reformer Pilates , have dinner & then check stock levels ahead of upcoming events & markets.

Before bed, it’s time for content creation - editing videos & scheduling posts ahead of a busy week.

It’s such hard graft to have a full-time job & a business, but I wouldn’t change it for the world

About me [founder of Betty Dream]

Hey, a little reintroduction to me - Nicola, the founder of Betty Dream. I’ve owned this business for 8 years now & I have had the privilege of working on it as a tiny idea in my brain to becoming a fully-fledged business.

In case you didn’t know, my business is named after my Great Aunt, Betty who allowed me to take the leap to run my own business.

I worked in schools for many years & adore my little niece, hence featuring so many products for younger ones.

I offer limited edition bows, personalised birthday banners, celebration disco balls & nursery decor online & through selected markets.

My business goals are to collaborate with another business, launch the annual bow sale & have a record breaking Christmas this year.

Things about my business you may not know

Everything is handmade by little ol’ me. Unless of course it’s anything knitted which is lovingly made by my amazing mum!

I often dream about who will be receiving my products & what their lives look like. Who they’ve purchased them for & who will be opening them.

The week Clover went viral… at least one of us did! 🤣 if you haven’t seen the reel it’s in my tagged feed. She could have at least promoted Betty Dream 🙄

We’ve been contacted by Ring (the doorbell company) and I’ve had to sign a document to say I’m happy for it to be used in promotional stuff and marketing etc 🤣 We’re hoping they might give us some freebies or at least a free subscription 🤣

It’s been a crazy week let’s just say that!

It’s amazing that I was once that little girl who didn’t want to learn how to sew from her Mum or Granny. And now I own a business where I get to sew and create beautiful pieces that are apart of people’s homes and occasions 🎀
Thank you for coming along on the journey for the last 8 years, I’m hoping to spend some of the summer creating something new which also means learning to sew different things, things that aren’t bows that may include zips👀🤯
