We had a brilliant night at Southwell yesterday! Swinging London started the night off with a truly game performance to gain his 3rd win at the course. Given a great ride by Finley Marsh he gained compensation for his unlucky defeat at Pontefract a couple of weeks ago. Well done to Eventmasters Corporate Hospitality and Mark and Denise Sheasby!!
Our next runner on the card was for our neighbours the Payne family with Cobalt Comet. He has not been an easy horse and credit must go to jockeys Jimmy Sullivan, Cam Hardie and our apprentice Fin Basset who have all helped educate this horse on the racecourse and at home. He ran an absolute stormer to finish a half length third after being carried across the track by the second horse. Hopefully a bright future lies ahead for him.
The evening ended with our other yard stalwart Bomb Squad putting in a typical gutsy effort under a power packed ride from the incredible Hollie Doyle to win a competitive race. Well done to daughter Joanna who rides him most days and to Derbyshire Racing who are massive supporters of us!! Well done to all the owners and a big ‘Thank You’ to to my staff and part time riders who work so hard to get the horses to the races in such good form.
Well done everybody I am still buzzing! I suppose I will have to take the team to Rascalls for a celebratory breakfast now!!! 🏇💨🏇💨🔥🏆🏆😂😂

Another fabulous win by our mare FISTRAL BEACH at Wolverhampton this evening when winning Division 1 of the 7f handicap under another excellent & well judged ride from Jack Doughty. Congratulations all involved in her within Derbyshire Racing and the whole team @ John Mackie Racing , who have enjoyed a cracking start to 2026 with 7 winners 🏆 👏🐎

Our yard apprentice Finley Bassett had his first race ride today at Wolverhampton on Late Claim. He did a fantastic job considering he has had no experience of pony racing like so many youngsters have today. Fin has worked incredibly hard in the yard since joining us from school and we are so pleased to get him the opportunity to ride in races. Under the guidance of jockey coach Russ Kennemore (another former employee) he has come on leaps and bounds of late so it was fantastic to see him finish second in his first race. Slowly away he did not panic and followed the field around til turning into the straight where he edged out and with a hands and heels ride he pushed the mare out to chase home the winner who had been prominent throughout. Fin will have learnt a lot for the experience so let’s hope it is onwards and upwards from here on in !! WELL DONE FIN!! 🏇💨

Packetofbiscuits (Hobnob to his friends) ran an absolute blinder to win for the second time in 8 days at Southwell Racecourse under a fine ride by PJ McDonald. There was a strong early pace which suited our style of running and allowed us to come from last place to win nicely. Well done to The Pot to Pete in partnership and to all the staff at home who have worked so hard through this challenging wet winter. We certainly have had a good time of it lately, let’s hope it continues for a bit longer!! 🐎💨🐎💨 🔥🔥🏆🍾
