Since taking the jump from aspiring to coach at the top of Rugby to supporting children and families having their first experiences of the game as a Rugbytots franchisee, one thing has been clear:
If I want to make this work long-term, it has to work for everyone involved; not just the children in the sessions and making sure they have an environment they can love and thrive in.
This has meant being really intentional about what weโre building. For children:
๐ Engaging sessions that build real foundations delivered by paid and qualified coaches
๐ Confidence through achievement
๐ A genuine love for being active no matter what sport they go on to play in the future
For coaches:
๐ Clear support and development in their paid role
๐ Opportunities to take ownership
๐ Clarity outside of classes so they can turn up with confidence and enjoy running their classes
๐ A pathway to grow, both in the role and for their future, not just deliver sessions
For families:
๐ Something consistent, reliable, and worth their time
๐ Opportunity to build their childโs confidence and familiarity at their future or current school setting outside of school time
๐ A place where their children are supported and known
For venues and schools:
๐ Strong & reliable partnerships
๐ Opportunities for families to experience the school and put it โon the mapโ for their childโs education decision
๐ Positive environments for families to come together and build a community
Itโs not always the easiest route, it takes more time, more energy, more investment in people. But itโs the way I see this being sustainable and meaningful, as well as it being the right way to enrich all stake holders.
Because when coaches grow, sessions improve.
When sessions improve, children benefit more.
When children benefit, families stay and believe in it, schools get more continued hire at their setting. An โeveryone winsโ environment โค๏ธ
Thatโs the cycle Iโm passionate to build and invest in. It will be a continual work in progress, but itโs one Iโm fully committed to.
If youโre a coach who wants to be part of something like that, who is keen to invest their time in our youngest generations having an amazing time whilst learning movement literacy (and a bit of rugby) Iโm always open to a conversation. Similarly if you run a venue in one of the below locations and would like Rugbytots delivered at your setting; termtime, curriculum, afterschool club or as a weekday/weekend community class - please do reach out. Or if you have children who you would like to be part of our classes and what we aim to continue building for their benefit, check out www.rugbytots.co.uk or send me a messsge - Tom ๐๐ฉท๐ (pictured with my youngest at his nursery classes as he assistant coaches the classes for his friends)
