Pentjak Silat Kuntao Matjan UK Pentjak Silat Kuntao Matjan The UK representative is Dr. Philip H.J. Davies.

Kuntao Matjan is a self-defence art from Central Java, Indonesia, which combines Indonesian Pencak Silat with a form of Southern Chinese Tiger-Style Kung-Fu. It was brought to the West by the late Dutch Indonesian master Paatje Carel Faulhaber and is currently headed by his closest studentand fellow 'Indo' Paatje Richard Kudding. As Pencak Silat Kuntao Matjan the art is recognised with the International Pencak Silat Federation (PERSILAT) in Jakarta.

Tonight a minute's silence was held at tutup gelanggang for one of my first Kuntao students, Simon Kerslake, who tragically passed away Wednesday last week from a rare and devastating neurological disorder. Simon's contribution as a student was formative for me as both a teacher and practitioner.

Monday was first gelanggang since the second wave shut everything down in mid-shovel step. Everyone rolled out and performed really well - folk have clearly kept up both training and thinking about the art during the lockdowns. Really proud of everyone in the UK Kuntao Matjan brotherhood. Second session tonight - weapons! Yardstick and getting a start on the short stick. The perfect things for maintaining social distance while training....
