A Saturday morning glide from the sailing club, round the swan's neck, to where the river opens up under Bredon Hill.

2.5hrs of calm water and almost no one else about. This is paddleboarding at its most peaceful, and it's closer than you think.

We run these all summer. Beginners welcome, boards and everything provided, standing on water within twenty minutes.

27 degrees on the River Avon this Saturday and Sunday. Spaces on the morning safari and group sessions both days.

The water is flat, the river is quiet, and it looks like summer has arrived.

Kids SUP Club runs every Tuesday this summer on the Avon at Defford. Eight children per session, 4 to 5:30pm, Alex and Becky on the water throughout. Water pistols mandatory.

This is Rob, on his learn to SUP lesson. Look at what his body is doing.

He's hinging from the hips, knees soft, core doing the work. The power comes from his back and shoulders, not his arms. That's a proper stroke.

Most people do the opposite. They stand upright and reach and pull with their arms, because that's what they've seen everyone else do (a sure sign they're self taught). It feels like the natural thing. It also tires you out fast, slows the board down and leaves you wobbling.

Paddleboarding is only a core workout if you paddle from your core. Hinge from the hips, drive through the stroke, and you get steadier balance, a quicker board and far less fatigue. It's the same stroke the racers use.

This is what we teach in every lesson. Standing on water within twenty minutes, then learning how to actually move across it.

Sessions Friday to Monday.
