🎾 Why We Chose The Best Padel Surface Available (And Why You'll Often See Erik Brushing The Courts)

When we built Play Padel Club: Deal, we had a choice.

We could have chosen a lower-maintenance artificial grass surface that requires less attention and less work.

Instead, we chose a very specific MondoTurf STX - we will spare you the other 8 letters of our specific type - that is our trade secret :)

Why?

Because we believe the playing experience should always come first.

The STX surface was specifically designed for padel and uses premium monofilament fibres with a reinforced central spine. In simple terms, the fibres recover their shape better after being compressed by players and ball impact.

What does that mean for you?

✅ More consistent ball bounce across the court
✅ Fairer and more predictable rallies
✅ Better grip and movement
✅ Improved comfort underfoot
✅ Reduced impact on ankles, knees and hips
✅ A better playing experience for beginners and advanced players alike

The reality is that great padel isn't just about the court structure or the glass. The playing surface underneath your feet has a massive impact on how the game feels.

The downside?

This type of premium surface needs more care.

The sand has to remain evenly distributed. The fibres need to stay upright. Leaves, dirt and debris need removing. The courts need regular brushing and ongoing maintenance to keep performing exactly as they were designed to.

That's why you'll regularly see Erik out there with a brush.

Not because the courts need fixing.

Because we're making sure they don't.

Could we, like others in our area, have picked an easy - low maintenance option? If we didn't care about you, sure. Could we jump on a machine every few weeks, drive around for a few minutes and call it maintenance? If we didn't care about you, probably.

But maintaining premium courts properly takes time, effort and attention to detail. We'd rather put in the extra work than watch the playing quality slowly decline.

The extra maintenance is our problem.

We have been pushing very hard for this one! We have a growing community of women joining the courts at Play Padel Club : Deal. From a low-entry level 'Intro to Padel', to playing with friends, to joining a "She Plays" social session. More and more do we see the movement shift from a male dominant sport to more 50/50. At Play Padel Club, besides organising loads of open sessions, we also offer a few 'women only' events throughout the week! Fancy a go? You can't fault the British Weather. Even though we might have had a good month and a half - it is back to the indoor padel courts! No wind, no rain, no excuses. We could just put this post on repeat every 3-4 days or so - as we are back at it again. 4 seasons in a day
