Racing for a Brighter Future!
On the 7th of September, Vicky and I are taking on the Race to the Sun—an exhilarating endurance event that will test our limits as we race against time. But this isn't just about the thrill of the race; it's about making a difference. We’re raising funds for Action Medical Research, a charity dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by supporting cutting-edge research.

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated and supported us in this challenge!

With the big day just around the corner, we're feeling the nerves (and biting our nails 😂). If you've already donated, we’re incredibly grateful. Please do us one more favor—share this post to help spread the word so we can raise as much as possible for vital children's research. 🤍🧡🤍

Introducing Team "Two Flat Whites and a Large Piece of Cake"! 🌟

Hey there, lovely supporters!

Get ready to join us on an epic adventure as we take on the Race the Sun challenge in the stunning Lake District Keswick this September! 🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️🚣‍♀️

We're Siân and Vicky, two unstoppable mums with a passion for pedaling and a love for laughter! Our journey began back in 2022 when we hopped on our bikes to raise funds for the Northampton Hope Centre. Now, fueled by caffeine and cake (our secret weapons!), we're teaming up once again to support the incredible work of Action Medical Research.

With our fair share of bumps, bruises, and hilarious mishaps along the way, we're determined to race against the sun and make every moment count! Sure, we may have our injuries, but together, we're a force to be reckoned with – pushing each other to new heights and sharing endless giggles along the way.

Why are we taking on this challenge? Action Medical Research. They have spent over 70 years funding vital research to help defeat the diseases that devastate the lives of sick and disabled babies, children, and young people.By supporting our team you will be helping to find ways to reduce premature birth, to support children facing a lifetime of challenges caused by disabilities, and to develop cutting-edge therapies for rare and incurable diseases.

So, whether you're a fellow coffee enthusiast, a cake connoisseur, or just someone who loves a good laugh, we invite you to join us on this unforgettable journey. Every donation, big or small, will help us make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Let's race against the sun, spread some sunshine, and make miracles happen together! Thank you for your incredible support – let's do this!

With love, laughter, and endless gratitude,

Siân and Vicky - Team "Two Flat Whites and a Large Piece of Cake" ☕️ 🍰 ☕️

Here are some ways to potentially boost your metabolism:

1. Engage in regular exercise: Both aerobic exercises, such as running, swimming, or cycling, and strength training can increase your metabolic rate during and after the workout. Aim for a combination of cardiovascular exercises and strength training exercises to maximize the benefits.

2. Build muscle mass: Muscle tissue burns more calories than fat, even at rest. Incorporate strength training exercises, like weightlifting or bodyweight exercises, into your fitness routine to help build and maintain muscle mass.

3. Stay active throughout the day: Look for opportunities to move more throughout your day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, go for short walks during breaks, or stand up and stretch regularly if you have a sedentary job. These small bursts of activity can add up and help boost your metabolism.

4. Eat enough protein: Protein requires more energy to digest compared to carbohydrates or fats. Including lean protein sources such as chicken, fish, tofu, beans, and lentils in your meals can increase your metabolic rate and promote satiety.

5. Stay hydrated: Drinking an adequate amount of water is essential for maintaining a healthy metabolism. Even mild dehydration can slow down your metabolism. Aim to drink water throughout the day and use it as your primary beverage.

6. Eat smaller, frequent meals: Consuming smaller meals throughout the day, rather than a few large meals, can help keep your metabolism active. This approach may prevent your body from entering a "starvation mode" where it conserves energy.

7. Spice up your meals: Certain spices like cayenne pepper, ginger, and turmeric have thermogenic properties that can temporarily increase your metabolic rate. Consider incorporating them into your meals or enjoying spicy foods if you tolerate them well.

8. Get enough sleep: Lack of sleep can disrupt your metabolism and lead to hormonal imbalances that affect appetite and energy expenditure. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to support a healthy metabolism.

9. Manage stress levels: Chronic stress can contribute to hormonal imbalances and metabolic dysfunction. Engage in stress-reducing activities such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, yoga, or hobbies that help you relax and unwind.

10. Avoid crash diets: Extremely low-calorie diets can slow down your metabolism as your body tries to conserve energy. Instead, focus on creating a sustainable, balanced eating plan that includes a variety of nutrient-dense foods.

Remember that individual results may vary, and it's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional before making significant changes to your lifestyle or diet.

It's Stress Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on the impact of stress on our lives and learn about ways to manage it.

Stress is a natural response to challenging situations, and a certain level of stress can even be beneficial, as it can motivate us to take action and achieve our goals. However, when stress becomes chronic or overwhelming, it can have a negative impact on our physical and mental health, affecting our ability to function and enjoy life.

The good news is that there are many things we can do to manage stress and improve our well-being. Here are some tips to get you started:

Practice relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation, or yoga.
Stay active and exercise regularly, as physical activity can help reduce stress levels.
Eat a balanced and nutritious diet, as food can have a powerful impact on our mood and energy levels.
Prioritize self-care, such as getting enough sleep, taking breaks, and engaging in activities you enjoy.
Reach out for support when you need it, whether it's talking to a friend, family member, or professional.
Remember, stress is a normal part of life, and it's okay to feel overwhelmed or anxious at times. The key is to recognize when stress is becoming a problem and take steps to manage it before it starts affecting your health and happiness.

So this Stress Awareness Month, make a commitment to take care of yourself and prioritize your well-being. You deserve it!

Friday Top Tips ℹ️
Finding time and consistency in exercise can be a challenge, especially when juggling work, family, and other responsibilities. However, it's essential to prioritize regular exercise to maintain good health and wellness.

Here are some tips to help you find time and consistency in your exercise routine, even when the weekend is your rest time:

1. Create a schedule: Set aside specific times during the week and weekend for exercise. Write them down in your planner or calendar and stick to them as much as possible. Consistency is key when it comes to establishing a regular exercise routine.

2. Mix it up: Variety is important to prevent boredom and keep things interesting. Try different types of workouts, such as strength training, cardio, and yoga, to challenge your body and mind.

3. Find a workout buddy: Exercising with a friend or family member can help keep you accountable and motivated. Plus, it's a great way to spend time together and bond.

4. Make it a family affair: Incorporate exercise into your family time by going for walks, bike rides, or playing active games or sports together. This is a great way to stay active while spending quality time with your loved ones.

5. Take advantage of technology: There are many fitness apps and online workout programs available that you can do from the comfort of your own home. This can be especially useful on weekends when you may not have access to a gym or fitness center.

6. Be flexible: (this is really important) Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes your exercise plans may need to change. Be willing to adjust your schedule as needed, but make sure to get back on track as soon as possible.!!
💭 💭
Remember, finding time and consistency in exercise is all about making it a priority and finding what works best for you and your lifestyle. With a little effort and dedication, you can establish a regular exercise routine that will help you maintain good health and wellness for years to come.

I want to share something with you all that I've been working on lately. I've started running with my daughter, and it's been such an amazing experience. Running isn't my favorite thing to do, but I love my fitness, and it's been so rewarding to share this activity with someone I care about.

We haven't really started running for a specific reason, but we have set a goal to run a 5k together. And let me tell you, it doesn't matter if you're not a "runner" or if you don't feel motivated. It's all about trying something new and learning along the way.

The thing is, every journey starts with a single step. And that's exactly what we did. We took that first step and started running together. And now, every time we run, we make progress towards our goal, no matter how small. It's such a rewarding feeling.

But the best part about all of this is that it's not just about the running. It's about the bond that my daughter and I are creating through this experience. We're making memories that will last a lifetime, and it's such a special thing to share.

So I want to encourage you all to set a goal for yourself, no matter how big or small. It doesn't matter if it's related to fitness or not. It's all about trying something new and challenging yourself to grow.

And if you can find someone to share that experience with, even better. It could be a friend, a family member, or a partner. Whoever it is, having someone by your side can make all the difference.

Remember, progress is progress, no matter how small. So take that first step towards your goal and keep moving forward, one step at a time. You've got this!
