The time has come to say ‘farewell’. It’s been an awesome ride but the time has come for me to hang up the Blaze Gloves.

I will be teaching my last Blaze Class at DL Coventry on Wednesday 18th August at 6:15pm - hopefully to some banging Ibiza Anthems!

It would be awesome to see my old Blaze Tribe in the studio for 1 last time. I realise that the time may not work for some of you but I’d love to see you all in there for my final class so I can make you sweat just 1 more time.

Make sure you book your spot as soon as the class is available on the App.

Spread the word. Let everyone know and let’s see if we can get a full studio for the grand finale.

Fan Dance Training BootCamps start this Saturday 7 August, 9:30am at Daventry Country Park.

Open to all those wanting to enter the Winter Fan Dance as part of the Anytime Fitness Daventry Squad and anyone who just want to get fitter and have some fun.

You do not have to be a part of the FD Squad and you do not need to be a member of Anytime Fitness to join in the BootCamps.

BootCamps will run weekly on Saturday morning until 18 December 2021.

Pay up front and save or pay as you go per session.

Body weight exercise are underrated and under-utilised in error - especially push-ups. They are not glamorous or sexy but they are a great way to improve your based strength and muscular endurance.

If you weight 70kg - doing 10 strict push-ups is way more impressive and arguably more beneficial than doing 10 dumbbell presses with 20kg.

Improving and maintaining your strength to weight ratio is something you should never overlook.

Here are some push-up variations to help you mix up your training and progress your push-ups over time.

Want to improve your push-ups?
This evening, before you go to bed do as many strict push-ups on your toes as you can. Repeat tomorrow morning and evening.
Then add 1 push-up each day but only if you manage to complete the full set the day before. Do not add another push-up if you can’t complete the previous day.
Do this for 1 month and see how much you improve.

Don’t confuse a strong core for a 6-Pack. It’s very common, in fact ‘normal’ to have a strong core without the 6-pack.

Training your core will not give you a 6-pack - the only way to get those abs showing is to reduce your body fat percentage. It doesn’t come from magic pills, fat burners or detox teas it come from hard work, a calorie deficit and healthy choices.

Here are a few weight plate exercises that will help you strengthen you core - they will not give you an instant 6-pack.

➡️ SIDE BENDS. Keep hands on legs. Don’t lean forward or back. Never use 2 weights.

➡️ HIGH WOOD CHOP. Rotate your upper body making sure you hit the brakes using your core - do not over rotate. If you have lower back problems skip this one.

➡️ RUSSIAN TWIST

➡️ RUSSIAN TWIST WITH KICK OUT

➡️ BUTTERFLY SIT-UPS

➡️ PLATE UNDER DRAG

➡️ PLATE PUSH/PULL

➡️ CRUNCH

➡️ KNEE TUCKS

➡️ PLATE PUSH-UPS

10-12 of each for 3 rounds.

Sunday was probably physically and mentally one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.

4th attempt at the AEE Fan Dance. Last time out I finished just 4 minutes inside the 4hr mark.

This time I wanted to to be a bit more convincing.

From the gun I went off fast. No messing…. Powering up hill and running anything remotely flat or down hill. The weather was kind - not too hot and a nice power shower as I dropped off the top of Pen-Y-Fan for the final 5km decent to the famous Red Phone Box.

Here are the stats:

1033m of elevation
Finished with 36lbs on my back
Time at half way point - 1hr 43m
Total time - 3hrs 45min
Total time in Red 3hrs 40min
Max HR - 197
Cost - 2 toenails, approximately 2square inches of skin off my feel and almost 5000 calories.

And all for a handshake, a patch and a “well done fella” from ex-SF DS.

Having convincingly beaten the 4hr mark this time out I’m pretty happy and I know that I had nothing left in the tank - the Myzone results confirm that.

A good day out for those who want to find out more about themselves. Test you mind, test your heart, test your body. Thank you to Ken and the DS for putting this no frills authentic event on once again.

It’s that time again. Hopefully it will be less than 4hrs of pain and suffering tomorrow but either way I’m up for it.  ...

Every journey, no matter how long or how far away the goal seems, has to start somewhere.

Those who know me, know where I want to end up, but you can’t run before you can walk.

Nice to be stripped back and exposed this morning. I can quite safety say this is out of my comfort zone…… but that is where good things happen.
