One of the most valuable lessons I learned as a dancer is that
I was taught that if youโre being corrected, itโs because someone believes youโre capable of more. Feedback isnโt something to fear; it is something to appreciate. Itโs a sign that your instructor is paying attention, believes in your potential, and genuinely wants to help you improve.
Of course, it doesnโt always feel comfortable. Sometimes feedback can feel repetitive, frustrating, or make us feel vulnerable. It can highlight habits we didnโt realise we had and challenge us to move differently. But growth often begins in those moments.
Itโs a lesson Iโve carried with me into Pilates. Whether Iโm the client receiving feedback or the instructor giving it, I see correction as an act of support. Itโs not about criticism or fault-finding; itโs about refinement, development, and respect. When delivered with kindness and purpose, feedback becomes one of the greatest gifts we can offer our clients in helping them reach their full potential.
So next time your instructor offers you a correction, some advice, or a cue, try to see it for what it really is:
