💙 MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS 💙
For generations, many men have been taught to “be strong,” “man up,” and keep their struggles to themselves. Unfortunately, that silence can come at a devastating cost.
📊 In the UK:
• Around 3 in every 4 su***de deaths are men.
• Research suggests that 40% of men have never spoken to anyone about their mental health.
• Men are significantly less likely to access talking therapies than women.
• Men aged 45-54 continue to have some of the highest su***de rates in the country.
🚧 The Construction Industry:
• Construction workers are around 4 times more likely to die by su***de than the national average.
• It is estimated that two construction workers take their own lives every working day in the UK.
• Long hours, financial pressures, job insecurity, physical strain, and a culture of “getting on with it” can all contribute to poor mental health.
• Many workers report feeling uncomfortable discussing mental health concerns due to fear of judgement or appearing weak.
When men feel unable to talk about stress, anxiety, depression, grief, financial pressures, or personal struggles, problems can build in silence. This can lead to isolation, substance misuse, relationship breakdowns, poor physical health, and, in some cases, tragic outcomes.
Talking isn’t a sign of weakness.
Talking is taking action.
Talking is strength.
