NEW ALUMNI GROUP: https://www.facebook.com/groups/268807297956862/about Welcome to University of Bristol Canoe Club
We're a busy and active club covering lots of paddling including white water, canoe polo, stand up paddleboarding, playboating and surfing. Anyone is welcome to join whether you've never been paddling or have done it for years - any ab
ility is welcome. We have weekly socials and run regular weekend trips for whitewater river running, canoe polo tournaments or SUP trips. When:
Wednesday - 1.30pm- Docks polo sessions
Thursday - 8.45-10.30pm - White water skills pool session
Sunday 7.45-9.30 - Canoe polo pool session
Sunday afternoon - SUP session docks
Weekends usually consist of trips to go white water paddling, kayak surfing SUPing or canoe polo tournaments including BUCS. Our pool sessions take place in the SU Richmond Building. Our docks sessions take place at the Brunel Lock Pitch. White water:
To try and fit in as much paddling as possible, we have several weekend trips throughout the year as well as day trips to Dartmoor and Wales. We frequently paddle the Dart, the Exe, the Usk and the Dee. An extended trip to Scotland or Wales occurs during Easter before ending the year with a 2 week trip to the French Alps. Our Thursday pool sessions help teach you the skills required for paddling on moving water. Canoe polo:
We have 3 teams that compete regularly. We play in a South West University Polo League (SWUPL) as well as away weekend tournaments. Finally the year cumulates in our BUCS competition at Nottingham. Last year (2021/22) we competed in the SWUPL league winning the b-team tournament with our new wave of recruits. We took part in Cardiff canoe polo tournament competing in the Womens and Open league placing 6th in womens! (we are very proud of our new members putting up a fight against experienced teams). Anyone is welcome to come and try this sport. It is like water polo but in kayaks and really fun! Stand up paddleboarding:
Our weekly Stand up Paddle boarding sessions are a great way to inject some tranquility and balancing practice into your week! All skill levels are welcome! We have 5 boards to offer and we meet at the SU building before setting off from the docks. Paddle boards and related paraphernalia, as well as wetsuits and lifejackets, are all provided by the club so all you have to do is come with a smile! These sessions are fairly new to the club (as of last year) so come and let us know if you have any suggestions! Socials:
We have weekly socials that range from the pub after the pool, non drinking socials such as Airhop or bouldering to nights out. We have a Christmas and Annual meal as well as our annual Fitz fundraiser for safety equipment for the club. We're a pretty friendly bunch! ALL KIT IS SUPPLIED THAT YOU NEED TO GET YOU ON THE WATER-YES EVERYTHING! IN ORDER TO ATTEND POOL SESSIONS, YOU NEED A BEACTIVE SPORTS PASS TOO. Find out more:
