Yesterday at the Academy we had our End of Season Christmas Party and Tournament, we had lots of food, presents and laughs.
We had an open draw for the adults and the kids all the way through. There were some great games and some good checkouts and high scores. The Final was between myself and Jake Stanley in a best of 5 competition. Jake won in a final leg shootout to take it 3-2. A great finish to the season for Jake and the Xmas Champion 2019 title is all yours.
After the tournament we handed out some gifts to the kids, a set of signed darts which were kindly donated by Melanie Tadhunter from Darts GB who have been amazing to us and if you ever need any darts, accessories or anything they are always on hand to help you out, they are based in Enfield so only 40 minutes away where you can go and try out the darts before you buy them. I genuinely would highly recommend them, they are Darts Mad and know so much about the sport we love. I also handed out some signed shirts from top players and other bits and pieces.
Once the gifts were handed out and opened it was time to hand out the End of season awards, they were as follows:
Parents Player Of The Year - Max Stanley - Max has a heart of pure gold. His enthusiasm for the sport of Darts is always high and his darts are getting better and better all of the time. A massive congratulations to Max. 2020 is going to be a top year I can see it.
Coach’s Player Of The Year - Mitchell Porthouse - Mitchell has been the most consistent player of the year. His Maths skills would put the people from Countdown to shame. His Darts are consistent and he has won 70% of the tournaments we have played this calendar year. He is the reigning Bowman’s Darts Academy World Champion, Grand Slam Champion and Grand Prix Champion. This is just the Darts stats, Mitchell is a lovely kid with a huge future ahead of him in the sport. I for one cannot wait to see how far he goes, congratulations .
Most Improved Player Of The Year - Jake Stanley - Jake has been nothing short of incredible over the last 6 months. When we first started over 2 and a half years ago Jake was spinning darts out of the board. He is now consistently hitting 140’s and only missing the maximum by a couple of mm. Jake is now over 6ft and he is 13 years old. There is no ceiling to see how far Jake can go and 2020 is going to be a very exciting year to see Jake go above and beyond his 2019 form. Jake is a great kid and helps all of the other kids with the Maths and always volunteers to chalk which is great to see, congratulations.
Now to the biggest accolade in my opinion that can be given to somebody in an Academy environment, this was voted by all of the kids.
Player’s Player Of The Year - Mitchell Porthouse - After winning 3 of our Majors and how consistent Mitchell has been throughout the year this was fully deserved. Mitchell is 12 years old and how good he can get is frightening. Even if Mitchell is losing he will find a way to come back, his resilience and attitude to never giving up is something that even adults can look at. Confidence in your ability is something that cannot be overlooked and it won’t take long for Mitchell to show on a larger scale what he can do on a dartboard. 2020 can be the year of Mighty Mitch. A massive congratulations.
Last but definitely not least. Every single player has come on leaps and bounds all year.
Remi - Our youngest member, winner of the World Cup Of Darts with George and carried him all the way. A great kid with so much potential in the game.
Taylor - Has been with us since Day 1 and has improved so much especially in the past year. On his day Taylor can beat anyone.
Tom - Tom has been with us just over a year now and is getting better all of the time. Looking forward to you winning some competitions in 2020.
Louis - Winning 3 tournaments this year Louis could have won even more. A very consistent player and bags of potential that can take him as far as he wants to go.
Joshua - Once again another with bags of potential, always wants to play and never gives up, I’m expecting a tournament win in 2020.
Big George - A great kid with a never say lose attitude and a great darts player. Unfortunately George has got a new job so will not be able to attend anymore but we all wish him all the best for the future and you are welcome back whenever you are free.
Little George - Always wins Blind Killer and got so much better in the last 6-9 months. His football and cricket have unfortunately got in the way of darts so has left us. But once again we wish you all the best and welcome back whenever you want.
What a great year it has been, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thank you so much for mine and Dylan’s gifts they are great and we are very lucky to have such amazing kids to teach and amazing parents. Your all a great bunch and 2020 is going to be the best year yet.
