Cec Leece Cup Final match report
Yesterday saw Haughton in our first final of the season coming up against Middleton St George Cricket Club. The rain looked like it may dampen proceedings, but managed to stay away ensuring we started on time.
Marko lost the toss and we were fielding and it took 2 balls for skipper to dismiss skipper with a good catch by Craig Edwards. It wasn't long before Marko struck again removing the dangerous Noman for 7. We continued a strong start and Sam Newton struck next to dismiss Sam Binks caught at long on by Mark Dobinson, then struck again dismiss Chris another good catch from Marko. Superb start from Mark and Sam saw Mark return figures of 4 overs, 3 maidens, 1 run and 2 wickets a superb effort in a cup final. Newts returning 2 for 19 off his four. The least said about our catching after this point the better, but we managed to drop what seemed like 10 catches including one juggled three times! Craig ended up taking 2/20 and Robert Maddison taking 1/37, but lets not talk about him clean bowling a batsman only to hear "NO BALL"!! MSG ended their 20 overs 114/7.
In reply, 12 lost Dan Naisbitt for 8 clean bowled. This brought the two lefties together with Keith Barker joining Craig in the middle. The two went about the chase picking up 1 s and 2s and punishing the bad balls. Craig was then out for a well made 39, bringing skipper Marko to the crease. Mark and Keith saw us home in the 18th over, Mark ending 12 not out and Keith picking up another not out ending 33.
A fantastic win and a huge confidence boost going into the last weekend of the season with an important top v second clash in the league and the Murrough Wilson final.
A final note to thank everyone who came to watch yesterday, the support does not go unnoticed by the players, so thank you!
