This morning I let my 4 horses into their arena/ paddock while I cleaned their stables and they were able to eat some hay.
When I was finished I went into the school to see how they all felt about stationing together, which we haven’t done for a while due to our arena being very wet. They all stood like pros and the most amazing part was that I had to call Scarlett to come and play. It doesn’t sound like much to most, but this little horse was so anxious around food and would kick and bite any of the other horses to keep them away. She also never used to let me out of her sight as I was another highly valuable resource. I am absolutely thrilled in the transformation, from simply teaching a seemingly simple exercise. All the horses understand that their own mat only pays them and they just don’t worry about the other horses or mats. Happy days 😀

A little catch up on the super ponies!

A little catch up on the super ponies!

So today, Erin rode a super chilled Mak while I walked with Gorse, or rather she walked and trotted with us. I took a very slightly shorter route to cut off the corner of one field and Gorse went with Erin and Mak. And then the little cute pony lifted her head and looked around for me and then trotted to me, I was about 50 meters away. She nickered at me as well. She is such a sweetheart

Whilst it's the scariest time of the year, let's talk about scary things!

Ponies are prey animals, and it's in their nature to look for anything potentially dangerous. If too many scary things happen in a short amount of time, we get a reaction (running away, spooking, etc.) because of a phenomenon known as "trigger stacking".

This is why sometimes your pony may not react to a scary post box most days, but on a day where they have already had a scary dog bark at them, and the wind making some spooky noises in the trees, they may react differently!

Remember, if your pony is frightened, telling them off won't help! Be their friend and let them know everything is ok ^_^
