A good mixture of kihon, kata and kumite in the juniors sessions tonight. A couple of (minor) things we need to work on ahead of the grading, but everyone is looking as thought they are ready. Keep practicing!
The dojo was a little warm by the time the seniors session started so we slowed it down a bit and went through Kan Sho.

Good work across all three classes tonight. The Little Tigers practiced side kicks (keage and kikome) against paddles - an actual target often helps improve striking techniques. Tigers worked on kata (mainly) and they are starting to look grading-ready. Pleased to have our green belts help the lower grades with kata - they did a great job.
Seniors class was more of the same :-)

Great classes this evening with the Little Tigers and junior grade Tigers going through pretty much all of the syllabus. Still some work to be done in preparation for the grading, but well done to all for putting in loads of effort.
A couple of new (to Shotokan) starters in the seniors class - they did really well despite being thrown a huge number of combinations!

Smaller classes this evening, but that allowed for a little more focus on kata across all classes. Little Tigers also worked om 5-step (gohan kumite) and the Tigers tried out a few kicking combinations against the paddles. Seniors worked on kata with an eye on the details.

Some great kicks this evening from the Little Tigers - some trying mawashi geris for the first time and acing it! Tigers and seniors stuck to the syllabus (more or less) as we head towards the grading at the end of June. Spent a fair bit of time on Tekki Shodan with the seniors, hopefully put a few things right :-)

Good work from all students this evening as we worked though basics and kata. Finished both of the junior sessions with a little pad work and the seniors with some ippon kumite.
Very pleased to see how well the new katas are coming along ahead of the grading - well done all!

Very pleased with the effort and focus across all classes this evening - well done all!
The Little Tigers did really well with Ben working on yoko geris (side kicks) and with Penny working on mawashi geris while I took the orange belts through back stances and Heian Shodan.
The Tigers class went through all of the 9th and 8th kyu syllabus as well as higher kyu grade katas. Also had time to work on some 5-step. And we had a new starter who picked it up quickly and ended up working on Kihon kata with Penny.
Seniors class spent a lot of time on kata so I could see want we need to work on over the coming weeks - some really good katas.... and a few that need a little attention.

Both juniors classes split into two groups tonight so that those taking part in the competition on Saturday could get some last minute practice and work on competition etiquette. The rest of the class stuck to basics and then did a little light sparring which they all seemed to enjoy.
Sensei Ben spent a little time coaching our kata team while I started off the seniors class - the focus in the seniors was mainly on kata, etiquette and sparring.
A productive and fun evening :-)

Keages and kekomis mostly and some kata.
Went through keages (side snap kick) with the Little Tigers who are really getting hang of them and then practiced kata. Same with the Tigers, but also added kekomis (thrust kicks) into the mix and team kata (for those wanting to do that at the club comp in a couple of weeks). Seniors went through a couple of tension drills and then worked on some longer combos.
