Today saw Newtongrange PC play Penicuik PC at home in the Lothian and Borders League. The game was played in good spirits by all and after the mornings play it was all even with a two all draw in the doubles. It all changed in the afternoon when NPC won both the triples and the singles resulting in a four - two win for NPC. Well done to everyone.

This photo is of Lyn and Kaye accepting a cheque from Neil Williams Haulage as a donation towards our new pistes. So now seems as good a time as any to update you on where we are with piste development. Despite a lack of change on the ground there has been a lot of work done. Part of the reason there is little evidence of progress is because of hold ups we have not anticipated. We approached local councillors for assistance; looking for financial support or assistance with physical works. Meaning well, they spoke to the Planning Department who told us we need planning permission. We did not and still do not believe that we need planning permission, but we have been unable to change the view of the planning representative. Our understanding is that no other piste in Midlothian has needed planning permission; why should we be different. We have been trying to avoid applying for planning permission for reasons of cost and time. However, that has not worked for us. Consequently, we have decided to enter into the pre-planning process to see if we can get our project moved along. We will keep you updated.

The NPC Senior’s Competition; 16 players came but only one left with the trophy. After everyone had played three games it was time for quarter finals followed by the semi-finals. In the semis, Brian played Joe and June played Neil. When all was over, it was Brian and Neil in a thrilling final with no strings and no time limit; first to 13 for the cup. Despite Neil’s best efforts it was Brian who marched to a 13:5 win and retained the cup he won last year. Well
Done Brian, maybe next year Neil.
