Back to winning ways at home!🐓⚽️

Croesy welcomed Tondu Utd to The Virgo Care Homes Stadium yesterday looking to avenge the early season defeat at Blandy Park.

Croesy started the game a little cagey with the opposition enjoying some neat interchanges in the central area’s but not really troubling Croesy’s back line.

The front 2 of Molly and Caitlyn didnt let the Tondu back line settle and were a constant threat with their penetrating runs. Both forwards had shots on just off target before Tondu had a long range effort which kept Maia on her toes in the Croesy net.

Croesy started to get into a grove with their attacking play and were almost rewarded when both Leah Jones and Gemma Prosser went close with decent efforts, before a lovely move from the Croesy midfield played in Leah, who in turn found Gemma on the edge of the box. Some clever footwork bamboozled the Tondu defence and the strike into the bottom corner gave Croesy the lead on the stroke of 1/2 time.

Croesy started the 2nd half like a house on fire and were moving the ball around nicely on a bobbly pitch. Croesy midfield started to really dominate the proceedings and after a clever through ball, Gemma was forced wide of the penalty box, but delivered a lovely cross to the back post where Leah Jones finished to make it 2-0.

Croesy kept peppering the away keeper but everything goalbound seemed to be straight at the keeper. Croesy looked to pile forward and keep creating chances but they couldn’t find the finishes their build up play deserved.

Credit to Tondu who battled hard for the 90mins with 11 players (we know how difficult it is) and all the best to them for the rest of their season.

All eyes forward now a very busy week for the Women, as they face a further 3 games this week, starting with a nice local
Derby vs Celtic on Tuesday night at Woodland Road.

Heartbreak at the death!

Croesy welcomed Sully Sports to the Virgo Carehomes stadium on Sunday, looking to try turn the tide after recent defeats against high flying opponents.

We knew Sully were another tricky test following our 4-3 win earlier in the season.

Croesy new girls Sophie Hall & Kris Jasicova made their home debut’s following their cross town transfers.

Sully took the lead following the award of a penalty in the 22nd Minute. The ball fell to the Sully striker in the box with Evie Potter-Reed using her speed to get back into position and challenge, but the referee deemed the shoulder to shoulder contact was too strong and pointed to the spot. Croesy keeper Maia Brown got contact on the penalty, however the power of the shot took it into the roof of the net.

Croesy looked to exploit the space behind the Sully back line with willing runners Molly Tozer & Bethan Jones looking to cause chaos in the channels.

Bethan forced her way through 2 strong tackles and the ball fell to leading scorer Leah Jones who’s early shot went just past the post.

Croesy kept knocking the door and a long ball forward from skipper Erin found Molly Tozer who flicked the ball into Leah who shot low and beat the Sully keeper to make it 1-1.

Sully made it 2-1 on the stroke of half time, when Croesy failed to clear the their lines and a ball across the box found an unmarked Sully player who sidefooted past Maia.

Croesy started the 2nd half in the ascendancy but Sully refused to buckle under the pressure of the Croesy attacks.

Croesy levelled the scores after a ball played to Bethan Jones was flicked into Molly’s path and she was bundled over in the box by the Sully defender. Erin Potter-Reed stepped up and planted her penalty top corner to level the scores up.

Croesy pushed bodies forward in search of the winner and just when it looked like the game was going to finish 2-2, a strong driving run from the Sully Winger finished with a powerful shot which keeper Megan got a strong hand to but ultimately couldn’t keep out. Heartbreak at the end for Croesy who now go into a chaotic period of midweek games to at the business end of the season.

Despite the defeat, this was an encouraging display. Our 2 new signings settling in very nicely with the our squad.

Defeat on the road for the women!

Croesy played Llwydcoed a few weeks back and knew we were in a for a tough day, having lost 4-1 at the hands of their hosts.

Llwydcoed started quickly and were 1 nil up with pretty much the first shot on target of the game after a few promising attacks by the hosts were snuffed out, we failed to close the winger and striker down who combined nicely to lash a shot past Maia in the Croesy goal. The hosts had the wind with them in the first half and they tried to make it count with every attack putting pressure on Croesy.

The hosts doubled their lead after 17 mins with a somewhat controversial goal, the home striker thought she had lobbed Maia, with a wind assisted shot, which Maia clawed onto the post and it bounced back out into field of play, yet the referee from
fully 40 yards away decided that the ball had crossed the line despite the appeals of the Croesy defence and keeper.

Croesy were looking to get some joy with some lovely through balls from the midfield causing issues for the ‘Coed back line and moments after her introduction, sub Molly had a great effort saved at at the near post by the home GK. Molly undeterred, showed her composure shortly afterwards by latching onto a long ball into the wind from Skipper Erin Potter-Reed and lobbing the onrushing goalkeeper to half the deficit going into HT.

Croesy started the 2nd half sluggishly as the hosts had a very early chance that went wide almost straight away off kick off. This woke the team up and following a period of getting back into the game territorially, Llwydcoed scored 2 goals in the space of 7/8 mins. Croesy gamely fought back though and created some good chances before Molly who was a constant nuisance to the home team was hacked down in the penalty area. Gemma Prosser stepped up and buried the penalty beyond the home GK’s reach. It wasnt to be for Croesy though despite the work rate and effort Llwydcoed held on to see the game out.

Some really pleasing signs from the team, the never say die attitude and with new signing Sophie Hall slotting into midfield really well and adding quality and experience to the team, we are excited by what the end of the season looks like.

The team have now played 5 out of 6 games against the top 3 in the league and now have fixtures against teams in and around or below them coming up, we will be looking to push up the table.

A tough game awaited us yesterday at the Virgo Care Homes Stadium yesterday.

The previous home fixture was abandoned at HT, by the match referee following a torrential downpour halfway through the first half made the pitch unplayable. Whilst the rain threatened to play a part in the proceeding pre game (again) the game went ahead.

Croesy had a bare 11 to face the promotion chasing team, with a combination of injuries, illness, unavailability taking its toll on the squad.

The visitors started quickly and scored after 2 minutes with a shot that went in near post. They quickly doubled their lead before Croesy’s Leading scorer Leah Jones scored with a clever chipped finish over the stranded away keeper.

This gave Croesy a bit of confidence and they attacked a bit more and were gaining confidence in the half as they tried to match the high flying visitors. The visitors went 3-1 up but a crazy 3 mins at the end of the first half saw Croesy concede 3 goals to head into half time with the harsh scoreline of being 6-1 down. Llan to their credit were ruthless in their finishing of the chances they created.

The second half was all about hard work and effort that the Croesy team showed in spades. Despite conceding a further 3 goals, the 11 players continued to give their all for the cause, led by Capt Erin Potter-Reed who played through injury and was still putting tackles in, deep in the oppositions half in the latter stages of the game.

The 11 players who put the shirt on yesterday were a huge credit to themselves and the club, they never stopped fighting for every ball, being competitive in the game and coming together to support each other in tough circumstances that they faced yesterday. Some of the players played their first full 90 mins yesterday and did not disappoint.

We re-group ahead of another big test away at Afc Llwydcoed next weekend.

What a game of football on International Women’s Day!!

The game today ended in a 1-1 draw where both sides showed all the qualities of the modern woman on International Womens Day. Guts, determination, hard work and resilience on were on display in spades today, from both sides.

Croesy were looking to bounce back from their defeat in their last game and Caerphilly came determined to claim 3 points to avenge the 3-0 defeat they suffered at our hands back in October.

The game started brightly with a few early exchanges leading to half chances at both ends but the main battle was in the middle of the park.

Croesy had the better chances of the first half, despite Caerphilly’s territorial advantages, with Mel Fortier hitting the post from a wide angle and then a Gemma Prosser effort on the turn, was saved smartly by the Caerphilly keeper at her near post.

Shortly after that chance the away keeper made a brilliant save to keep the scores 0-0 after a through ball found new signing Molly Tozer 1 v 1 with the keeper. An outstretched arm denied Molly her first Croesy goal.

Croesy broke the deadlock just before 1/2 time, after a determined run from Evie Potter caused chaos in the Caerphilly back line who failed to clear their lines, with the ball eventually led to the ball reaching Gemma Prosser who’s clever touch and finish past the away keeper gave Croesy a 1-0 half time lead.

The second half was arguably Caerphilly’s and the pressure they put us under paid off with clever move and a superb angled finish to level the scores after 55 mins. Caerphilly looked to turn the screw, but some resolute Croesy defending kept the scores level. The final whistle went with honours even and the first draw of the season for Croesy.

Good luck to Caerphilly Dragons for the rest of the season.

We now turn our attention to next weekend where we host high flying Llangynwydd Rangers.
