Bird Ringing at Kingarrock.🪶🪺
Les from The Tay Ringing Group visited earlier this week to record and ring birds we have on the course. Ringing can help us to record migration patterns and better understand species numbers - both key to helping conservation practices.🐦⬛🌍
Here’s what we found…
Blackcap ⚫️
This birds breed locally in Scotland but migrates to the Mediterranean for winter. However, due to climate change, more are spending the winters in the U.K due to warmer conditions.
Whitethroat ⚪️
These birds migrated from Sub-Saharan Africa to summer in Scotland. By ringing this bird, it’s migration path could be traced by other ringers across the route.
Wood Pigeon 🐦
A common species for us all, but rather misunderstood. They are hardy creatures able breed all year around. This is due to their unique ability to transform vegetation into Pigeon Milk for their young. From human farming habits and constant food production they are able to thrive.
Yellow hammer 🟡
A red listed species due to changes in farming across the country. They are one of the last birds you’ll hear singing in towards the end of the breeding season.
Les is a highly trained and qualified bird ringer with years of experience. We’re very thankful for him to help ensure our birds are in safe hands.
