Well today we saw the season close with another fine performance from the boys at the Kildrum Festival. We had a sleepy start after a 4am finish with the Scotland game and lost the first match despite creating many chances but it didn't take them long to wake up, winning 8-2, 3-1, 2-0 and 1-0 to top the group and go straight into the final against a BSC Glasgow blues team they had already beaten 2-0 in the groups.

With Haydn and Jack on holiday and Bradley injured in the last group game we had to adjust the defence but they were superb, BSC not registering a single shot on target in the final. At the other end though, their goalkeeper was sensational - saving 4 1v1s and several other efforts at goal in a strong attacking performance that just missed the final finish. It was just one of those days and the game finished 0-0 and onto penalties. Unfortunately, it wasn't out day as BSC clinically scored all 5. A big well done to BSC, their only defeat of the day came to us in the group stages and they should be proud of their efforts throughout - a very well organised team with a good group of coaches. Well done boys!

As for Kildrum, the highest scorers in the tournament and by far the team with the biggest heart - you did us all proud and although today wasn't your day there will be many more for this great group of players.

Over and out, and onto a well earned summer break!

Last week we had our end of season awards and it was a great chance to reflect on an excellent first season at 11-aside. We started and finished the season on fire 🔥 and we've developed a very strong squad of boys who are prepared to fight for each other and all the coaches are looking forward to what next season brings.

A big congratulations to our award winners:

Coaches player of the year: Findlay Mooney 🏆
Players player of the year: Findlay Mooney 🏆
Most Improved Player of the year: Seth Pickersgill 🏆 & Kieran Docherty 🏆

And as the season draws to a close tomorrow with the Kildrum Festival - a final big thank you to our sponsors for their support this season - we couldn't have done it without you!

It's only a game of kids football eh! See what a last minute winner means to the boys (and coaches 😂) after leading 6 times in a game only to be brought level each time.

And look at right-back Haydn, scoring the free kick and absolutely sprinting to get straight back into position 🫡

What an incredible game, credit to both teams, and another great example of the battling spirit in this team. They took knock after knock in this game and just kept giving more and more and more. Going 1-0, 3-1, 4-3, 5-4 and 6-5 up and being pegged back every time before finally winning 7-6 in the final minute - a crazy game of football!

We started brilliantly, going 1-0 up inside 2 minutes with a brilliant Roman goal after a couple of keepie uppies he hammered it into the net. A few minutes later the first of quite a few frustrating decisions let Rosebank back into it, a questionable free-kick was fired in, Seth made a great save but the striker followed in to tap in.

We then went straight back up the pitch and Findlay grabbed his 50th competitive goal of the season - a brilliant achievement - and it was a trademark goal. He closed down the defender, won the ball, took it round him and slotted it into the net. Roman added a third to go 3-1 up and then credit to Rosebank they managed to score their next 2 attacks to go 3-3. Roman completed his hat-trick to go 4-3 up before a last minute equaliser was knocked in after the striker controlled the ball with his hand. 4-4 at half time in a breathless first half. The boys came off very frustrated, a few poor refereeing calls and a few mistakes at the back undone a lot of the excellent attacking football we played.

Into the second half, Roman didn't waste much time before smashing a tremendous strike into the top corner from 25 yards to put us 5-4 up. Rosebank came back again to 5-5 before Kieran followed up a rebound to nod in to go 6-5 and then the game got really contentious. The Rosebank striker bundled through two players and held off a shoulder to shoulder, ran clean through and unimpeded pinged a great effort which Seth made a tremendous save to deny. No claims for a penalty - none - but the referee took it on himself to bring it back for a foul and give the penalty despite clearly playing advantage. This sparked a lot of frustration in the team and the match went to 6-6. Seth then had to make a great double save to keep it level and the referee called 30 seconds to go and on the attack we went.

Trialist Jacob went on a run down the left and was fouled as he cut inside. Hayden had been practicing free-kicks for weeks in training and asked to take it. Up he stepped and sent a lovely strike high across the goalie for a brilliant winner. Scenes.

Two very difficult games against two very good teams in the last week and after a coming back from 4-2 down last week against Alloa to then get a last minute winner after being pegged back several times today showed the strength of character and team spirit in this group of boys. We've had a very good second half to the season and we're all looking forward to seeing what this group can achieve next year.

Kildrum United 4 Alloa Saints 4

What a sensational game of football this morning. We started the brighter and Findlay and Joshua were causing havoc down the right and we created some great chances, the best of which Findlay cracked the post from 25 yards. Alloa are clinical though and when their chances came they took them, going 2 up before Haydn grabbed a goal from a corner to make it 2-1. We had a chance for the equaliser but Alloa caught us on the break with a ball over the top to go in 3-1 at half time.

The boys could easily have crumbled despite putting so much into the game but they did the opposite and went straight on the attack and Joshua, who was brilliant all game, got us back to 3-2. We kept pushing and pushing, Joshua then smashing the bar, Roman denied by a great save by the goalie and then scooping over from a corner. It just wouldn't come and then Alloa broke up the pitch and scored an absolute worldie, thundered into the top corner. The boys looked heartbroken but did they give up? No. Back on the attack and Roman scored an equally good goal, right into the top corner. 3-4.

At this stage we were well on top and the equaliser was inevitable given the pressure - a wonderful run and shot by Findlay and it might have been going in but Roman made sure, smashing in the volley. 4-4. Could we win it? Last attack and the ball falls to Harrison at the back post but a wee mix up between him and Roman and we couldn't finish. There was time for one last Alloa attack as the ball came pinging in from deep but there was Seth with a flying catch to claim the ball.

Fantastic entertainment, football and collection of goals and both sets of players deserve real credit.

Well done boys. That's what grassroots is all about.

Mom today was Joshua and Jack. Joshua was strong defensively but going forward against a solid Alloa side he kept feeding Findlay with great deliveries. As the game went on his confidence grew and he got into great shooting positions, his goal was a good finish and his strike off the bar so so unlucky.

As for Jack, a half time sub he really contributed to the comeback with some solid tackles, excellent passing and he came so close to getting a winner from the edge of the box.

Great game boys.

Findlay ⚽

A very harsh lesson for the boys this morning. After being on a great run of form we went in confident but conceded after one minute as the wind blew a corner into the net. It was very unlucky but the reaction wasn't great and we conceded two more poor goals as we tried to go a little too attacking to get back into the game. A couple of subs and a change of shape after 20 made a difference and all of a sudden the game changed completely and it was attack after attack. We should have got a goal back after Roman was totally taken out by the goalie when clean through in the box but the ref played advantage and he couldn't get his balance back before knocking wide. It was a penalty and red card all day long but these things happen in football and you have to take it on the chin.

The performance in the second half was good but we just missed too many incredible chances, if it finished 10-3 it would have been fair but you have to make them count and we simply didn't. Findlay did get one back but a combination of good goalkeeping and bad misses meant we just couldn't get back into it. A good lesson for the boys though about starting well, you can't give teams a 20 minute head start and despite deserving so much more you have to credit Central for taking theirs and managing the game like pros when ahead. The 5 minutes of added time was about half of what could have been added.

MOM today was Kieran and Joshua. Joshua linked very well down the right, showed good composure on the ball and kept driving us forward.. Kieran was strong in midfield but really shone when he stepped back to defence, defending well and drove forward well to start attacks.

With one of our players leaving the local area and as we start to prepare for next season we are now in the position to bring one or two players in for specific positions. If you are an attacking wide player or a defender and want to join a team on the up get in touch. We have a fantastic squad and team spirit and play good, attacking football. Training is Tuesday and Wednesday at Greenfaulds High or Cumbernauld Rugby Club. Games on a Saturday.

A solid attacking display from the boys this morning away to BSC Glasgow with some excellent goals on show. Throughout the season the team has really gelled and they are full of confidence right now - it's a shame there's only a few games to go.

The goals were spread throughout the team but Findlay and Roman grabbed 4 each, Findlay showing good forwards instincts for his, and three of Romans strikes were sensational and he fully deserved his MOM today. Jake scored a lovely lofted strike, Joshua a great volley, Kieran a trademark finish from the edge of the box, Rico finished after a mazy run and Harrison slotted in at the near post.

The MOMs were Ryan and Roman. Ryan was superb on the left and was threading balls in behind all day, his accuracy was bang on every time. As for Roman, when he's hitting a ball as clean as this you could put 5 goalies in there and they aren't saving them. Well done boys!
