🏆 James McKinlay Memorial Fearless Wrestler Award
Tomorrow evening we’ll be presenting the first James McKinlay Memorial Fearless Wrestler Award.
James McKinlay was a former Tryst Lions wrestler from the days when the club was based at Greenfaulds Sports Centre. His connection with the club goes back many years and he was part of a generation of wrestlers who helped shape the club.
The award has been created by Stewart James’s son, in memory of his dad and to celebrate the qualities that James himself embodied.
This award isn’t for the best wrestler or the wrestler with the most medals. It recognises a young wrestler who has demonstrated:
• Fearlessness and courage
• Determination and resilience
• Willingness to take on challenges
• Commitment to training
• A positive attitude
• Willingness to compete and test themselves
• Ability to overcome setbacks
• Supporting and encouraging others
The winner has been chosen by the Tryst Lions coaching team, based on what we’ve seen from our wrestlers throughout the previous training season. The award also includes a cash prize towards the winner’s wrestling development.
We really appreciate such a thoughtful way of supporting our young wrestlers and such a meaningful way to remember James and the qualities he valued.
