Ravenswood AFC Airdrie & Coatbridge Invincible Division One Champions 2023/24 🏆

07/12/2025

Our game today against Coatbridge Cowboys unfortunately ended in a 2-1 defeat. A game we didnt deserve to lose however we also struggled to really create many chances so a draw would have been a fair result. Both keepers were never really troubled throughout the game.

We were 1-0 up at the break however the Cowboys capitalised on slack defending at 2 set pieces in the 2nd half to win the game.

Our goal today came from good attacking play from Lewis Sullivan and Ryan Quinn which set up Chris Haldane, who slotted the ball from 18 yards into the bottom corner by the Cowboys keeper.

A good performance overall from the boys today in particular from Lewis Buick and William Burke however our MOTM today was Lewis Sullivan.

That’s our Sundays done with for Christmas as we now have 2 games coming up on Friday 12th against Cumbernauld Thistle and Gartcairn on Tuesday 16th;

Friday 12th December vs Cumbernauld Thistle, 8pm KO @ Broadwood.

Tuesday 16th December vs Gartcairn, 8pm KO @ St Ambrose.

Today we faced Broomfield in the league which we knew would be a tough game given their league position. Down to the bare bones today after a few call offs, we were expecting the worst after conceding an early goal from a defensive passback and mistake.

However, the next 88 minutes of the game was the opposite as the lads performed brilliantly and came away with well deserved 5-1 win. We took our chances in the game and defended well throughout.

Our goals today came from Lewis Sullivan, James Mearns, Ross Downie and a double from MOTM Declan McGarvey who was superb today. Sebo with numerous great saves as well kept the boys going.

A great win for us today and with some playing through injuries meant they all had to play their part.

We move onto next Sunday as we face Coatbridge Cowboys.

Today was another break from league games as we took on FC Hamilton in the All in Cup.

The game was level throughout with both teams struggling to really create any clear cut chances. The game finished with penalties after a 1-1 draw in which the boys scored 4 of theirs to win 4-3 with Sebo saving 2.

Our goal today came from MOTM Ryan Quinn after a quick 1-2 with Christopher Haldane sent him through one on one with the keeper and slotted a left foot shot into corner.

All best to FC Hamilton for the rest of their season. We now move onto face Broomfield next Sunday which will be a 12pm KO at Riverbank Community Hub.

Today we took on Charleston Thistle in the 3rd round of the West of Scotland cup. Unfortunately the game ended in a 1-0 defeat.

A very close affair with both teams struggling to really take control of the game. The only goal came from a penalty which Sebo initially saved, however another Thistle player scored on the rebound.

Another game of a few chances missed to score but we learn from it and move on to next week in another cup game. We take on FC Hamilton in the All in Cup, 11am KO @ St Ambrose High School.

MOTM today goes to Lewis Sullivan.

Today we returned to league action against Lochgreen which ended in a 4-1 win. A good result and performance, however it could have been more with some glaring chances missed.

Goals today from Matthew Brown, James Mearns (x2) and Ross Downie which were all well taken finishes from good play down the sides and 2 corners. Ross Downie also won’t be taking penalties again 😅

Liam MacLeod takes the MOTM today after a dominant performance in midfield especially in the 2nd half.

All the best to Lochgreen, who were unlucky today and having to play with no subs.

We now move onto face Charleston Thistle in the 3rd round of the West of Scotland Cup, next Sunday 12pm KO @ Riverbank Community Hub.

Today we faced Halfway Afc in the All in cup which resulted in a 4-1 win. Definitely a game of opposite halves for the boys today as the first half was potentially the worst we’ve played this season, however the second half was much better and where we dominated the game scoring all our 4 goals.

Halfway fully deserved their 1-0 lead at half time however after 2 Ross Downie goals, a tap in from James Mearns and a well finished Matty Brown strike, we take the win into the next round. All players played their part today and Sebo made some great saves to keep our lead as the game went on.

Hard to pick a MOTM today however 2 stood out in the 2nd half which are Ross Downie and Euan Calder.

We now have a free week and won’t play again until the 9th of November against Lochgreen.

The last 2 weeks have been disappointing for the lads as we crashed out of the Scottish cup on penalties and were on the losing end today as we returned to league action against Coltness Utd.

A chance to get to back to winning ways next Sunday when we travel to Wishaw to face Caledonian Monarchs in the West of Scotland cup.

Sunday 19th - 2pm KO @ King George V Park.

Today we played away at Symington which seen us pick up our first 3 points of the season with a 4-2 victory.

Both teams would agree that this wasn’t the best game of football especially the first half however at half time we did find ourselves 1-0 up after a Liam Egan header was deflected into the net. Even though the football wasn’t great, the boys showed great effort throughout the half.

It was after the half time break the boys started to get the ball down and play creating a few chances from good play down the right hand side. However our second goal came from another setpiece which turned out to be an identical goal from the last time we visited Symington. Ryan Quinn scored straight from the corner and this time the wind didn’t play it’s part, a fluke we could say.
The boys continued to create chances and again good play down the right from Heed released Ross Downie to slot past on the oncoming keeper. This took the score to 3-0 and we seemed to be in cruise control.
However in true Ravie fashion the boys conceded 2 cheap goals one from a slack clearance and another from the penalty spot. This would make for a nervous last 5 minutes however more good play from Heed won a penalty in the last minute which was smashed home by David Foham to end the game 4-2!

Hard to pick a MOTM today after good performances from Foham, Lewis, Shaun (Heed), Quinny and Ross however Captain Liam Egan was the standout in defence.

Goals;
Liam Egan
Ryan Quinn
Ross Downie
David Foham

Assists;
Ryan Quinn
Shaun McGivern

All the best to Symington who on another day could have completes the comeback.
