🏆 DAVID GREENER CUP FINAL – MATCH REPORT 🏆
Crook Town Cricket Club 2nd XI vs Durham City Cricket Club 2nd XI
A rematch of the 2025 David Greener Cup Final, with Crook and Durham City meeting once again for the trophy at Dawson Street.
After the drama of the Semi Final, skipper Lewis Formosa won the toss and elected to field.
Durham City started patiently and worked their way into the game before Crook turned to The Hutch.
🎶 “He’s here, he’s there, he’s everywhere… Harry Hutch!” 🎶
Harry Hutchinson entered the attack in the seventh over and made an almost immediate impact. On just his second delivery, William ‘Bertie’ Sampson produced a brilliant diving catch to give Crook the breakthrough just as Durham were beginning to settle. 💥
Then came Jake Norman, fresh from his match-winning spell in the Semi Final, who produced another piece of precision bowling to clean bowl the other opener.
Durham had reached 78-2 after 11 overs, but Crook were about to turn the game on its head.
Hutchinson struck again with a bowled dismissal before taking a caught and bowled later in the same over.
And he wasn’t finished.
Into his next over, Hutch struck once more to leave Durham City suddenly struggling at 91-5.
With the pressure building, Joseph Macleod was brought into the attack for the 17th over — and what followed was a game-changing six deliveries.
Ball 1: Wicket — caught behind by skipper Lewis Formosa
Ball 2: 1 run
Ball 3: Wicket — caught by Mark Sproat
Ball 4: Four runs
Ball 5: Dot ball
Ball 6: Wicket — caught by Harry Hutchinson
Five runs. Three wickets. One huge over.
It was a brilliant example of bowler and fielders working together under pressure.
Joseph then returned at the death to claim the final wicket as Durham City were dismissed for 111.

Crook needed 112 to win the David Greener Cup.
For one final time this season, Lewis Formosa and Phil Wills walked out together to open the batting, but Durham City struck early, removing Phil for 9 and Lewis for 8.
Crook’s middle order refused to go quietly.
Harry Hutchinson led the fight with a crucial 22, while Jake Norman (6) and Sam Norman (9) battled to keep the chase alive.
Fresh from his outstanding spell with the ball, Joseph Macleod then tried to lead another fightback with 11 before unfortunately having to retire hurt.
The lower order continued to battle, but Durham’s tight bowling and fielding proved too much in the closing stages.
Crook were eventually dismissed for 93.

Durham City Cricket Club won by 18 runs and lifted the David Greener Cup.
A disappointing end for Crook, but what a final both sides produced.
Precision bowling, outstanding catches, pressure in the field and two teams refusing to give an inch made it a fitting contest for Finals Day.
Congratulations to Durham City Cricket Club on retaining the trophy, and credit to both sides for producing another superb David Greener Cup Final.
For Crook, it was another brilliant run to Finals Day and another performance that showed the fight and togetherness within the 2nd XI.
And most importantly, after having to retire hurt during the chase, Joseph Macleod is fine and has recovered from the injury he sustained while batting.
