Can resistance exercise help my bones?

Yes! Resistance and weight-bearing exercise can play an important role in supporting bone health.

When your muscles work against resistance, it places a healthy amount of stress on your bones, which can help stimulate them and maintain bone strength.

Regular resistance exercise can also help strengthen the muscles around your joints, improve balance and coordination, and support your confidence with everyday movement.

You don’t need to lift heavy weights to benefit.

The exercises in my classes can be adapted to your ability, allowing you to gradually build strength in a safe and manageable way.

My Road Back to Strength 💪

A good few weeks ago, I slipped in the kitchen and fell onto my opposite side. Unfortunately, my shoulder took the hit and I ended up with a rotator cuff injury.

At first, I thought I’d just give it time to heal itself. I rested it, focused on lower body training and kept up with my cardio — but after several weeks, it became pretty clear that it wasn’t getting any better.

So, I finally went to see a physio and I have got a proper plan.

I’ve been given a series of exercises using a resistance band, towel and stick, which I need to do 5-6 times a week.

The expected recovery is around 6–10 weeks, so this is going to be a journey of patience, consistency and doing the work.

As a Personal Trainer, being able to train and move well is a huge part of my life — so I’m really looking forward to getting my shoulder strong and doing all the things I love again.

I’m going to share the journey with you — the exercises, the progress, the setbacks and hopefully the results.

Follow along and let’s see how it goes!

⚠️ My exercises have been prescribed specifically for me by my physio, so please get professional advice for your own injury rather than copying my rehab.

What exercises are best during menopause?

The best exercises during menopause combine strength training, weight-bearing cardio, and some flexibility work. Aim for two to three strength sessions per week using weights or body weight, alongside regular brisk walking, swimming or cycling.

Lifting free weights, resistance bands or using your body weight for exercises like push-ups and squats. Building muscle mass helps protect bone density which then helps prevent osteoporosis.

Weight bearing aerobic exercises helps manage weight and also boosts your mood. Exercises include brisk walking, jog, dance or use the stairs.

Let consistency be your superpower!
...and habits are the building blocks of long term success.

A small amount of daily activity is more beneficial than sporadic workouts.

Consistency reduces stress, anxiety and improves self efficiency and sleep quality.

Following through on workouts acts as a promise to oneself, which boosts confidence and reliability.

It's not just about opening jars. Your grip strength is one of the strongest predictors of your overall health and longevity.

Research has linked stronger grip strength with:

• Better overall muscle health
• Lower risk of falls
• Greater independence as you age
• Reduced risk of early mortality

A strong grip often indicates good total - body strength, healthy muscles, and an active lifestyle — all key ingredients for healthy ageing.

You don't have to lift heavy weights to build grip strength.

Start with:

✔️ Carrying your shopping bags
✔️ Resistance band exercises
✔️ Squeezing a soft ball
✔️ Light dumbbell exercises
✔️ Simply staying active and strength training regularly

Small, consistent habits can make a big difference over time.

Building strength today means staying capable tomorrow.

A stronger grip can help you stay independent, confident and active for years to come.

Train for longevity. Your future self will thank you.
