Downes Crediton Golf Club

Downes Crediton Golf Club Brilliant 18 hole parkland course situated on the outskirts of Exeter! It can be challenging at times with three ponds and the River Yeo running through it.

A tree lined well manicured parkland course that is tight on the front nine and more undulating and open on the back nine. There are great views across the Devon countryside and woodlands where ravens and buzzards nest. The hundreds of trees planted in the early years are now approaching maturity and provide colour and interest all year round.

The annual Devonians v Rest of the World match teed off on Monday 20th July, once again serving up a brilliant day of golf, good-natured rivalry, and just enough edge to keep things interesting!

Played in a 4BBB match play format, the event had all the ingredients for a proper club occasion. And for those who fancied extending the day a little longer, there was a well-earned meal served up afterwards.

The team captains were Rob Abrahams for the Devonians and Richard Lloyd for the Rest of the World.

In the end, it was the Devonians who held their nerve and came out on top, winning by 11.5 to 5.5 — congratulations to them, and commiserations to the Rest of the World, who will no doubt be plotting revenge already!

It may not have been quite Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick, but Downes Crediton Golf Club still enjoyed a bit of sibling rivalry on display as the Quick brothers went head-to-head in last Saturday’s Hazeldon Trophy.

On the day, Marcus came out on top with an impressive nett 62, while Kevin followed closely with a nett 65 to take second place. Scoring was strong across the field, with 15 players finishing in the 60s (nett)—a great standard all round.

Last Friday saw the inaugural President’s Invitational at Downes Crediton Golf Club, bringing together teams from Crediton United AFC , Sandford Cricket Club , Crediton RFC , and DCGC to compete for both the trophy and local bragging rights.

The event was the brainchild of Crediton sportsman extraordinaire, Nick Bromell, who has exciting plans to grow this into a standout annual fixture—so watch this space.

Played in perfect weather, it was a fantastic occasion, with plenty of opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces and meet new ones across the local sporting community.

Congratulations to Crediton RFC, who narrowly claimed the trophy, with DCGC finishing second, Sandford Cricket Club third, and Crediton United AFC fourth.

Enjoy the photos from the day, including Nick Bromell presenting the trophy to Crediton RFC President, Trevor Sanders. We're sure the other teams will do their best to ensure the rugby club doesn't retain the trophy next year!

And the winner of this year's Club Championship is...Luke Burchell with rounds of 71 and 78 over the weekend. Martin Garnsey placed 2nd, and Ken Bones came 3rd.

Steve Govier won the Buller Bowl for the lowest nett score over the weekend at 4 under. (He also placed 5th in the Club Championship).

Club captain, Gerald Abdoll, who finished a very credible 6th in the nett competition, presented the winners with their trophies at the close of play.

Well played guys, and well done to all those who participated in very challenging temperatures and some testing pin positions:)

So after two tough days at Downes Crediton! We have our Club Champions!

Luke Burchell claimed the scratch men's Club Championship with a superb score of 149 (9 over) While Steve Govier shot a fantastic 136 (4 under) to win the handicap Club Championship

The Ladies Scratch winner was Tracey Chandler with brilliant score of 173 and for the 11th time!!!
While the handicap Club Championship was won by Sue Jackson with an incredible 136 (10 under) and finally in the Ladies prizes Fran Shrubsole won the Liz Mapson Trophy for best Nett score in both round of 69

Our Junior Club Champion was Liam Whittleston who scored a Nett 80 to become Junior Champion

The Sun is Shining and so are the Club Championship Trophies!

The 2nd round is now underway! With Matt Russell joint leader in the scratch with Luke Buchell with superb scores of 71 (1 over)

While in the Handicap Matt Russell is leading by 1 shot as his nett 64 (6 under) is closely followed by Mark Elliot with a Nett 65 (5 under)

Also our Ladies are battling it out for their Club Champion aswell with Tracey Chandler leading the Scratch with a score of 83 while in the Handicap its Sue Jackson with her nett 68
