Classes are running as normal today.

I hope you’re enjoying the sunshine. I know for many parents it’s a bit of a juggle with the children being off school, so wherever you are today, I hope you’ve managed to find a little time to enjoy it.

I’m writing this from a shady spot at Wakehurst, enjoying the breeze with an iced coffee and a bottle of water with electrolytes after my morning training session.

Over the years I’ve been fortunate enough to train in many different countries, from the freezing winters of Austria to the hot, humid summers of Hong Kong and southern China. One of the things I’ve always loved about Kung Fu is that, although we begin by learning techniques, over time we end up learning far more about ourselves. You become more aware of your body, your breathing and your surroundings. You learn when to push yourself a little, when to ease back, and how to adapt to whatever is in front of you.

Children are often so enthusiastic they’ll happily carry on regardless, which is one of the reasons parents are there to make those decisions. As always, please use your own judgement and do what’s right for you and your family. We’ll completely understand whatever you decide.

Here at the school we’ve got both the front and back doors open to create a good flow of air through the building. We’ve also got eight large fans circulating the air, with jugs of cold water available throughout the evening.

We’ll adapt the classes to suit the temperature, making sensible adjustments where needed while still giving everyone a fun and productive class.

If you are coming along, the team will be here as usual, looking forward to seeing you and helping you continue your training.

Whatever you’re doing today, take care of yourself, enjoy the sunshine while it lasts, and maybe, we’ll see some of you later.

It’s looking hot today, but we’re ready for it.

We’ve got fans in every corner of the training floor to help keep everyone cool, along with jugs of water to keep everyone hydrated throughout class.

Please bring your own water bottle too, and we’ll see you on the floor!
