IMPORTANT INFORMATION

We had been really looking forward to bringing you the Surrey Hills Challenge in 2022. The support you show us every year is fantastic and we appreciate all the positive feedback we receive about the event. However, participants being more cautious in entering events in general, and challenges across the supporting infrastructure, means that we have taken the difficult decision not to go ahead with the event this year.

We know how disappointing this is for everyone who was hoping to take part and we share that disappointment. Be assured though that we are working on an exciting new plan for 2023 that will encompass all the beautiful views and trails you love in new courses, new venues, and an exciting finish festival.

In the meantime, we will be contacting everyone registered with more information, as well as details on refunds, in the next few days.

Incredibly disappointing decision by parkrun UK to stop people Canicrossing with their dogs from 4th April. New rules mean you would have to run with a lead in your hand and your dog at your side within arms reach. We would encourage anyone that has enjoyed taking part in as a Canicrosser to get in contact with them and provide feedback on the new policy. They can be emailed here: [email protected]

We were very disappointed to learn today that parkrun have made the decision to stop people Canicrossing with their dogs from 4th April 2022

The directive from parkrun is that dogs will only be allowed to take part if they are running on a lead (not a Canicross belt). Something we would not recommend or advocate as the runner can be pulled off balance with lack of control and could lead to injury.

At DogFit we encourage, educate and show people how to run with their dogs in a safe, secure and balanced way. This is achieved using properly designed kit for hands-free running.

We have always been great supporters of parkrun and the opportunity it gave for owners to exercise with their dogs. We also know the great joy that this has bought to many people allowing them to enjoy parkrun together. With the correct kit and a short line you are able to run in balance and with proper control.

As Canicrossers that have enjoyed taking part at parkrun, we would encourage you to give feedback on the new policy to parkrun, mentioning the benefits of running in Canicross kit and what it has meant to you. Hopefully, with enough people sharing their stories in a positive way, it may encourage them to reconsider their decision.

In Flanders Fields
BY JOHN MCCRAE

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Lest We Forget
