Today, Daisy and I went on an exploratory walk. While the byway wasn't particularly obvious through part of the wood, Daisy was in her element... spanielling as best she could while on the lead!

We're now just over 27 miles into the walk 50 miles with your dog challenge, for

Settling into a new area is tough, but I signed up to this challenge to make me get out and explore with Daisy, which also means meeting new people (and their dogs) along the way. It's great for both my physical and mental health, Daisy gets lots of enrichment out of it, too!

Having been struggling with a cold for a couple of weeks, I haven't done my long runs. But there's now less than three months to go!

I booked this race because the distance scared me enough that I'd train for it properly. The last few months haven't been easy with moving house and losing my lovely Hathor, so I was kind to myself when I could be.

So, it's time to knuckle down and get the miles in. I mean, I'm still not actually convinced that having a longest run of 50km is going to be enough to get me completing 100km, but we will see.

Today's route was one plucked from and was rated 'hard'. Having had heavy rain for a couple of days, the slippery muddy trail, slippery steep inclines, and muddy fields in the last nine miles were impossible to run. I got it done, though. It was beautiful and is one I'd love to revisit when the weather has been dryer.

Daisy and I took part in our first Canicross event today!

We've learned that Daisy gets overwhelmed when surrounded by lots of other dogs. And that when she's unsure, she'll run so close to my heel that she's pretty much attached to it.

After 5 miles of mostly running at heel, with the odd brave run ahead, we had a lovely last mile with no-one in sight ahead of us.

Before I book us another event, I need to get running with the local canicross group, so Daisy learns that that running with other dogs is actually fun.

Week 10 of training, and I've only managed my long runs this week.

Been feeling a bit off all week, with a bit of a cold and niggly ankles. I was determined to get the back to back long runs in though.

Saturday I took myself up to Whitstable for parkrun, and an additional 9 miles along the seafront. The last 4 miles with a headwind were hard work, and I'm not a fan of running on the flat, but got the job done.

Today was Canterbury 10, where I ended up pacing for a 1hr 40 finish (was a little quick). I've not done this race before, but it was a lovely route with a couple of hills thrown in.

Ultra training began today!

I moved house over the weekend, so will be finding new places to run, which is exciting.

Today's run took me along country roads and across fields, with several undulations... loved it.

Another busy work week, hence the lack of posts.

Despite feeling the signs of fatigue early on in the week, I managed to do my weekday runs.

Tuesday was 4 miles on heavy legs and a tired body, following Great North Run on Sunday.

Wednesday's 5 miles was sandwiched into a break at work. I started work at 8:40 in order to do some management training, then had to do my normal shift so didn't finish work until around 21:30.

Thursday was 4 miles with the hill. I took it easy and had a few walk breaks. Hot and hard work.

I then intended to attempt 18 miles on Saturday, incorporating parkrun. However, on Friday evening at work, I had muscular pain in my shoulders and neck. I had a very uncomfortable night, so I decided it was best not to run at all Saturday. The pain intensified while at work, so much so that it made me feel sick.

Being hypermobile, I do encounter periods of painful muscles, I haven't had anything like this for some time, though. I'm not actually sure that my shoulder didn't subluxate, as there was some substantial clunking when I got changed out of my work clothes on Saturday evening, and nausea inducing pain instantly subsided. I have spent the day with bouts of pain today, but it no longer feels like my shoulder is about to fall off, so I think the muscles are just recovering from whatever it was that had happened.

Tomorrow will be another rest day, and I hope my shoulder recovers some more so that I'm able to get back to running again on Tuesday.

Today was Great North Run

I'd planned to tag on an extra 5 miles afterwards to take me up to 18 miles. While I had a good run, despite the heat, I very quickly got cold after finishing the race.

Turns out heading back to our Airbnb was the right decision, as shortly after we got back there was an absolute downpour accompanied by thunder and lightning!

I'm pretty sure I've always missed every time I've run Great North Run, but that was certainly made up for this year. While waiting to filter down to the start line, I managed to get my phone out just in time to snap their trail after flying overhead. Then, shortly after I finished, they flew over again and followed up with a display 😍

It's been a busy (and hot) week, which means I forgot to post, but I also haven't run much

Tuesday, I did my four miles as planned, at a good pace. I was then supposed to do 5 miles Wednesday and 4 miles on Thursday, but neither of those happened.

This weekend, I'm up in Newcastle for Great North Run tomorrow.

We took the opportunity to bag a 'J' and did Jesmond Dene parkrun. It's a beautifully undulating run with one particularly enjoyable steep downhill section towards the end 😁

Today's run didn't go to plan

It's week 13, run 4. Supposed to be 16 miles

I ran to parkrun, then did Folkestone parkrun, which took me to 4.5 miles. I hadn't had time to properly plan what I was doing today, so the easiest option was to finish off with an out and back along the seafront. However, I was concerned at running so far on the flat as it really hurt the other week when I did that for 14 miles.

It started off well, and I felt good up to the 8 mile point. I ran out of promenade before I hit 10.5 miles, which was to be my turnaround, but coming away from the seafront actually seemed to help. I needed a walk break before I hit 12 miles, and then I really started struggling.

Yesterday I worked a 12 hour day, I then didn't sleep very well and have had an achy back for a few days. My head wasn't really in the right place for a long run today, and the added pain from running on the flat made it easy for me to give up. Not long before the 13 mile mark, I stopped and rang to pick me up.

Next week is supposed to be another recovery week, but I have Great North Run on Sunday. So, I've swapped my long runs around and intend on running an extra 5 miles to take me up to 18. Let's hope I have a better week!
