It's the same every year, all of a sudden January comes around and we all want to kick the stuffing out of our systems!
Everyone wants to better themselves, which is amazing. But alot of people fall short sometime around February.
Well no longer!
Here are some of my top tips for keeping on track with your new year goals!
1. Start now, even if it's small.
The sun doesn't magically become undark in January, the weather doesn't change, and in most cases, only gets worse. By starting on the run up to Christmas, even if it's only for a couple weeks, you can prove to yourself that it's possible, and you are far more likely to hit January with momentum! It's easier to keep an object going, than it is to start it from a dead stop.
2. Small wins = BIG change.
If you want to say to yourself that from January 1st you are going to be hitting the gym 6 days a week and eating cleaner than a monk, then fine. But come back to me after 4 weeks when you're burnt out and sick of the gym and dieting.
Start small, even just going for a cardio workout 3 times a week, something simple and fun, max of 20 mins. Then build from there, you will see more benefits long term and also reduce your risk of injury.
3. You are not a robot.
Have days that you eat like a man/woman possessed, drink the occasional mojito, and do as much exercise as a couch ridden jabba the hut. Learning to take the bad with the good is an essential part of life, let alone fitness. I guarantee you that you will break whatever diet you put yourself on, it will happen, its remembering to pick yourself back up that's the important bit.
4. HAVE FUN.
It's not all doom and gloom! Enjoy your workouts and the positive change it brings mentally, physically and emotionally, take those flexing gym mirror selfies, you've earned it. πͺ
