On a baking hot day we hosted Greenside and we were hoping to continue our unbeaten run and stay at the top of the table.
Going out to field first after losing the toss we were still confident that we could make in roads given our recent performances with the ball in hand.
However, creating chances was not the issue. Our fielding, was at best, woeful. Dropping far too many catches a number of which from the Greenside's aggressor who top scored with 67. Guy bowled well from both ends of the wicket during his two spells taking 3. Joe went unrewarded for his blistering effort of 12 overs on the bounce from the bottom end, Ryan and Tom both bowling well from the top end. Greenside finally closed the inning on 245/7. A tall order but we still had confidence that if we applied ourselves we could chase it down.
Sully got us off to a great start as he so often has, really getting underneath the skin of the opposition. The remainder of the top order unfortunately failed to add any meaningful contribution until Mas got to the crease and with significant partnerships with Fin and Tom we managed to pass the 200 mark. Requiring 10 an over for the last few overs was always a tall ask and when Mas got out it was even less likely. Guy gave it a real go with a quick 20odd right at the end. But unfortunately we were 29 run short.
Reflecting on it we batted collectively very well and ultimately bowled well, while 245 runs would suggest otherwise had we taken our chances in the field the target to chase down could have been sub 200....
We move on to the cup in the midweek and then back to winning ways hopefully next weekend in League action again.
