๐Ÿ”ต MATCH REPORT ๐ŸŸก

Here is the match report for the third game week.

1XI - Cowling won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a good wicket, but they were unable to capitalise on the conditions. Struggling to build momentum, they were bowled out for a modest 128 in under 30 overs. Rehman Ali top-scored with 43, while Laiq ur-Rehman (sponsored by Samโ€™s Pizza) contributed 27.
In reply, Glusburn made a slightly shaky start, losing two early wickets, but quickly regained control of the chase. From there, they batted confidently and efficiently, reaching the target with ease to secure an 8-wicket victory in just 20 overs.
A disappointing day for Cowling, who will look to put this result behind them as they return to league action next week. Thanks, as always, to the volunteers on the bar and teas for their continued support.

2XI - Cowling, away at Sandy Lane, lost the toss with the home side electing to bat first which initially looked like a tricky wicket.
The opening bowlers struggled with the first 4 overs being taken advantage of by the home side. With some tight bowing by the father son partnership (Craig and Josh Ratcliffe) taking some key wickets in the latter stages of the game. The home team ended up being on 183 after the full 20 overs, mostly due to some poor fielding and loose bowling.
In reply, the opening batsmen initially struggled but found there footing with the number 1, Vasu Goyal (available to sponsor) putting up a strong 87, ultimately holding up an end whilst wickets fell around him. Sadly the 2s fell short by 49 runs which seemed a respectful total after a shaky start.
Another disappointing day for the 2s after they struggle to find their feet with their new found squad. Weโ€™d also like to thank some players who stepped in this week, much appreciated.

๐Ÿ”ต MATCH REPORT ๐ŸŸก

Here is the match report for the second game week.

1XI - Winning the toss and batting first, our innings was built around a composed 74 from debutant Ashir Imdad, who anchored things well and found the boundary regularly. He was supported by useful contributions through the middle order, with Majid Iqbal adding a fluent 40 and Irfan Ishaq playing a composed stabilising innings of 36. Late runs from Ubaid Rauf (20) and others helped push the total past 200, closing all out on 211, giving the bowlers something competitive to defend.
In reply, Haworth made a slow start tight opening bowling from Martyn Dalby Hamid Ullah Haworth had moments where they looked in the chase but regular wickets prevented any real momentum. Irfan Ishaq was the standout with the ball, claiming an excellent five-wicket haul to put the opposition on the back foot. He was well supported by Hamid Ullah, Zahid Hussain and Laiq Ur Rehman, who all chipped in with key breakthroughs.
Despite some resistance from Haworthโ€™s innings closed 180/8 sealing a deserved win by 30 runs.

2XI - Winning the toss and batting first, the 2s were set a steady platform by the openers Abid Sharif and Josh Ratcliffe who both rotated the strike and found boundaries effectively. The middle order also added to the total with some vital 20s from the likes of Vasu Goyal and Sajid Shafait. With this total the 2s ended up on being 133 all out after 43 overs which was a below par score on the playing surface. After the tea break, Skipton C.I. kicked off to a slow start with very little runs added on thanks to the skipper (Sajid Shafait) and Rizwan Ishaq picking up some key early wickets. However, the tone changed with the middle order creating a vital partnership which ended up carrying them over the line despite Josh Ratcliffe getting a key wicket to break up their innings. Skipton C.I ended up winning by 1 run with a few overs to spare.

๐Ÿ”ต MATCH REPORT ๐ŸŸก

Here is the match report for the first, not so successful, game week.

Our 1st team travelled away to Gargrave where they won the toss and elected to bowl first. Despite Hamid Ullah and Junaid Gulnawaz picking up early wickets aswell as Danish Hameedโ€™s 4fer, Gargrave ended up on 212 all out at the tea break. With 212 being the score set by the home side to chase, Cowling only managed to put 60 runs on before being bowled out after 30 overs of play.

Our 2nd team were at home to Bowling Baptists where they again won the toss and elected to bowl first. With 22 overs gone at drinks, Cowling had failed to pick up a wicket and find the breakthrough despite various efforts and bowling changes. However after the drinks break, Rezwanul Islam picked up a key wicket to break the opening partnership which led to the cows bowling the visitors out for 137 in quick succession. With 137 being set as the target, the opening batsman set a good foundation but wickets fell in quick succession leaving the 2s considerably short of the target on 80 all out.

๐ŸŸข JOINT CLUB STATEMENT FROM COWLING FC & COWLING CC ๐Ÿ”ต

Over the past couple of years, both Cowling FC and Cowling CC have taken some fantastic strides forward, and weโ€™re incredibly proud to mark what feels like a significant milestone in the journey of our clubs.

The return of junior football and junior cricket to the club has been a huge step in rebuilding a pathway for young people in the village to enjoy sport, develop their skills and be part of the club environment. Seeing young players back representing the village again has been brilliant for everyone involved.

Yesterday also marked another big moment for the club with the opening of our new bar at New Road Sports Ground. Itโ€™s something that has taken a lot of hard work behind the scenes and weโ€™re excited to see it finally open its doors. We hope it becomes a great place for players, supporters and residents to meet, socialise and enjoy the club both on and off the field.

Behind the scenes we also have plenty of plans continuing to take shape as we look to keep improving the club and its facilities for everyone who uses it.

With the summer ahead, both clubs are really looking forward to welcoming the local community down to the ground. Whether itโ€™s watching football, enjoying a game of cricket, or joining us for a special event, we hope the club continues to grow into a real hub for the village.

Weโ€™re also very excited about Cowfest 2026, fast approaching on May 24th, and it promises to be another fantastic day for the village and the club. Itโ€™s shaping up to be a brilliant event and another great example of what the community can create together. Tickets will be going on sale this month, and we urge you to secure your places early as they will sell fast!

All in all, itโ€™s exciting times down at New Road Sports Ground, and none of this would be possible without the continued support of our volunteers, members, sponsors and the wider community who have all played such an important role in helping the clubs move forward.

We look forward to seeing plenty of familiar and new faces down at the club over the coming months.

Alasdair McEwen & Martyn Dalby,
Chairmen, Cowling FC & Cowling CC
