There's a 6 knot speed limit in Cowes Harbour, but do you know the rules for other Solent harbours?
Check out this useful graphic from Hampshire Police Marine Support Unit and stick to the limit!
The Wash & Slow campaign is part of the Hampshire Police Operation Wavebreaker to tackle dangerous boating and anti-social behaviour afloat.

IRC Solent Region Championship: Summer 2021

On the following weekends the Solent Championship will be held for IRC rated yachts as well as cruisers giving a wide range of competitive racing. Spanning the full length of the Solent from Portsmouth in the East to Yarmouth in the West, this series aims to encourage IRC-rated yachts as well as cruisers in a wide range of competitive racing. Post-race hospitality at the host clubs provides the opportunity to experience the unique atmosphere of each, as well as socializing with your fellow competitors.

The dates for the series and the organising clubs are as follows:

5th/6th June Portsmouth Regatta
16/18th July Royal Solent Tattinger Regatta
4th September Island Sailing Club Nab Tower Race
17th/18th Sept Royal Southern September Regatta

The Championship is open to all IRC boats with a TCC between 0.750 and 1.360 along with cruising boats who do not hold a IRC certificate and will be allocated a certificate under one of the other handicap systems.

Please contact the organising Clubs to obtain more information on their Regattas

The SCRA is responsible for the laying of all the yellow race marks for the racing season and this is where we need your help. Without the yellow race marks racing in the Solent would be very difficult as navigation marks are becoming increasingly off limits. By joining the SCRA as an individual member you would be helping support yacht racing in the Solent. Membership is just £25, and if you race four weekends per year that would be just a few pennies per rounding! The little yellow race marks need YOU!

The RYA & Solent Cruising and Racing Association, invite all Solent base sailing clubs, race officers, race officials, as well as sailors to join this 1 hour webinar focused on Safe Sailing in the Solent. The date is Thursday 28th March at 1900.

The Portsmouth Queens Harbour Master and Southampton's ABP will be in attendance to speak about their statutory responsibility for the safety of all users within their jurisdiction. They will explain identified areas of concern where recreational users and commercial shipping come in close quarters, along with proposed solutions which intend to safeguard the interests of all bodies involved.

There will be the opportunity for questions to be asked, and we will endeavour to answer as part of the session. However we expect due to numbers this may be a challenge and so all questions will be recorded in writing, answered and circulated to all attendees. To register please click the link below.
