Starting with some more fantastic news from the RS Games. Cass and Harry have become RS Feva WORLD CHAMPIONS!! Massive congratulations to them, dominating with a string of first place finishes in a fleet of 138 boats!

Also in the Feva, Hannah and Fallon finished an impressive 11th overall and 3rd placed female boat. Some excellent sailing skills on show from them during the event.

Meanwhile in the RS Tera, in addition to Freddie’s win in the Sport fleet, we also had Harrison competing who had a really consistent week in his first international event in tricky conditions and showed great improvement towards the end of the week finishing 42nd overall. Fantastic result Harrison.

In the Tera Pro Fleet, Jack finished 12th which included several top ten finishes in a competitive fleet. Great work Jack.

GSC were very well represented in the RS500 European Championship with Robin/Emily, Heather/Tim and Thomas/Samuel. Conditions were tough but Robin and his young crew Emily finished an excellent 22nd in one of their races. Heather and Tim were fighting for the podium and narrowly missed out but still finishing with an impressive 4th place. Meanwhile brothers Thomas and Samuel managed not to have too many sibling dramas and finished 11th overall and 2nd youth boat (including a brilliant 2nd place in the last race).

Finally, Tim was representing the club in the RS Aero 7 and survived 14 races to finish a fantastic 23rd.

Congratulations to all of our sailors who took part. Fantastic club representation across the fleets.

We have lots of club sailors competing out in Germany at the RS Games in different boats. There’ll be a full report when all the fleets are finished at the end of the week.

However, we wanted to share how incredibly proud the club is of Freddie who has just become RS Tera Sport WORLD CHAMPION! What amazing news. Massive congratulations Freddie. We can’t wait to see you back at the club with that huge trophy.

We hosted our annual Club Championships last weekend, which incorporated an RS500 Open Meeting.

Saturday dawned with no wind, so Race Officer Steve Cole held the fleet of 50 boats ashore, hopeful that a sea breeze would appear later in the day. Eventually, a westerly crept down the Solent and, by mid-afternoon, there was enough pressure to get a couple of short races in. Race 1 was held on the last of the ebb, but by Race 2 the flood tide had properly kicked in, forcing the sailors to short-tack up the shore. Happy to get some races on the board, the sailors retired ashore for a BBQ to fuel up in preparation for a breezier forecast on Day 2.

Sunday saw Gurnard's conditions at their best, with champagne sailing in 18 knots of wind-against-tide, providing lively racing for all fleets.

Catamaran Fleet: Pete Newlands and Orion Shuttleworth won the opening races. Ash Holmes and James Gadsby enjoyed the windier conditions on Day 2 and posted two bullets; however, gear failure ruled them out of the final race. This was won by Martin Scott, securing him first overall in the fleet.

Fast Handicap: Mark Harrison and Tony Burton sailing with Jack Slaughter, won individual races, but it was consistency—and the determination to finish the final race—that paid dividends, giving Mike Acton and Tanya Fedorenko the overall win in an RS400.

RS500 (part of the Rooster National Tour): Five local RS500s were joined by four visiting boats for some very close racing, with plenty of place-changing throughout. Luke and Will Bradley took the opening race, with Tim and Heather Wilkins taking Race 2. Hugh and Luke Watson won Race 3, leaving it wide open with three races to go. Tim and Heather then stepped up a gear and posted back-to-back wins but even they couldn't hold back Thomas and Samuel Leather, who stormed to victory in the final race. First overall went to the Wilkins’, with the Leather’s just pipping the Watson’s to second overall on countback.
Medium Handicap: James Dower, Ben Symons and Ben Pickering all won two races apiece. However, Dower's better overall scoreline across the six races gave him the overall win from Symons and then Pickering.

Slow Handicap: This was the biggest class, with 14 entries, and included the youngest sailors, Joey Aarons and Albie George who made debut appearances crewing in their Mirrors. Hannah Yates and Fallon Day won Races 1 and 2, while Harry O'Callaghan and Cass Day responded with wins in Races 3 and 4. Rafe Bradley won the final race, but a second place for Harry and Cass was enough to secure the overall class win.

More great news from Plas Heli in Pwllhelli where 4 GSC sailors went to the RS Tera Nationals.

In the main Sport fleet of 50 boats. William came an amazing 22nd and definitely saved his best for the last day with a 6th and a 5th showing he massively improved during the 3 day event. He was just pipped by club mate Harrison (they can never be separated!) who came an excellent 21st showing super consistency throughout.

The big news was further up the leaderboard, where lots of podium changes were happening. Finally Freddie pulled out a super consistent last 3 races, getting a 2nd in each race to finish 2nd overall in the Tera Sport Nationals.

In the Pro fleet the sole representative for GSC was Jack who was up against some serious talent and many of the fleet had been getting use to the venue in the Feva nationals in the days before. Jack started off with a fantastic 2nd place and posted some other amazing single digit placings to finish up 8th overall.

We look forward to seeing how they all get on in at the worlds in Germany in August! Go GSC.

Plas Heli, Pwllheli RS Tera Sailing UK

Gurnard SC were well represented at the UK RS Feva Nationals at Plas Heli Plas Heli, Pwllheli in North Wales this week. With light winds, they didn’t manage to race every day but after 7 races Cass and Harry finished in a commanding first place to become NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! Well done boys.

Hannah and Fallon finished in a brilliant 6th overall and 3rd female team, and being presented with their prize at this event as overall winners of the 25/26 Grand Prix Series. Great achievement.

Also well done to Elsie crewing for a helm from Port Dinorwic sailing club. Despite having never sailed together before the event, they made it in to gold fleet. They finished 31st out of 101 boats, with all their results on the last day being in the top half of the fleet. Great pairing, well done Elsie and Ethan.
