University of Warwick Men's Cricket Club

University of Warwick Men's Cricket Club Home of the University of Warwick Men's Cricket Club, proud charity partners with the Campaign Against Living Miserably (https://www.thecalmzone.net/).

The University of Warwick Men’s Cricket Club (UWMCC) is one of Warwick University’s largest sporting clubs. Boasting four BUCS teams and a Friendly XI, it is fair to say that the club caters for all levels of cricketing ability. Nets are held weekly for each team in the Desso Hall on campus. For those who are debating whether to join the club we offer several taster nets at the start of first term

. Trials are held midway through first term and henceforth the club trains in squads. It is our intention to make these squads as fluid as possible, they are no means set in stone for the year. For those who may have slipped under the radar, good net performances and attendance will be rewarded. However, the club’s horizons extend far beyond the cricket pitch. Weekly socials are held on a Wednesday night at Pop!, where the club ‘circles’ alongside many other sporting clubs. We also have termly club meals and other socials such as golf days and visits to Edgbaston. We also hold a black-tie Cricket Ball in Term 1, where we welcome a guest speaker to entertain us over a three-course dinner (previous speakers have included Simon Jones and Paul Nixon). The club holds both annual domestic and overseas cricket tours. In the last four years we have toured South Africa, Barbados and Sri Lanka, this year we are returning to Barbados. Check out our website for more details on this once in a lifetime opportunity. Closer to home, we also run a domestic tour at the end of Term 3. Domestic tour has seen locations in recent years such as Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester, and Cardiff. At heart its intention is to have a good laugh, a culmination of both the year’s cricketing and social activities. On both tours, all members are welcome irrespective of cricketing ability. UWMCC in recent years seems to have attracted numerous footballing wannabes, and so the club also puts out the UWMCCFC in inter-university leagues (both 11-a-side and 5-a-side). The club certainly attempts to cater for all interests; we try to be far more than just a cricket club. We would like to see ourselves as an extremely friendly club and we are always willing to embrace new members. Whether you be a fresher or a finalist joining the UWMCC is a decision that you will not look back upon. In these few words hopefully you have got a little sense of what the club is about and an idea of the opportunities that will broaden your university experience and that you will look back upon fondly in later years. UWMCC managed to raise a huge £7539 for men’s health this movember, a club record and the most of any sports club at the University of Warwick.

Thanks for everyone’s support and donations, and we hope to continue to raise awareness around the importance of men’s health, both on and off the pitch.
