4th Team – Season Summary

League Position: 4th

Record: 7 Wins | 3 Draws | 6 Losses

Another hugely successful season for the Bablake 4th Team, captained once again by Pete Auguste. The team battled hard throughout the season, remaining in and around the promotion picture right up until the end.

With the eventual league champions proving to be far too strong for the division, promotion was always going to be a difficult task. Despite that, the 4th Team gave it a fantastic go and can be extremely proud of finishing 4th with 209 points.

One of the biggest successes of the season was the continued opportunity given to our younger players. Charlie, Ryan, Abdul and Steven, among others, were given the chance to play senior cricket, develop their skills and show glimpses of what could be to come for Bablake.

The season highlight came when juniors Josh and Abdul held their nerve to secure a brilliant draw against the league leaders, with the entire 2nd Team watching on. A fantastic moment for the youngsters and a great example of what the 4th Team is all about.

Credit must also go to the more experienced members of the side. Neil and Vee once again played important roles, not only contributing with their own performances but also supporting Pete and helping guide the younger players coming through.

Overall, while promotion ultimately remained just out of reach, the 4th Team can look back on a massively successful season. Competitive cricket, valuable experience for our juniors and a team that remained in the hunt all year — a great season for Pete and the boys.

🏏🏆 Join us on Friday 9th October from 7:00pm at Bablake Pavilion for our Junior Presentation Night, as we celebrate the hard work, progress and achievements of our junior cricketers throughout the season! It’s a great opportunity for our junior players and their families to come together and celebrate, but everyone at Bablake CC is welcome — including senior players, members, coaches, parents and supporters. Saturday saw a friendly Bablake Cricket Club XI take on a Corley Friendly XI skippered by Dave Harris on the second square in memory of Viranchi Jani.

Phil Mann said a few words before the game about how Corley was Viranchi's last opponents almost three years to the day.

Captain John Keith won the toss and decided to bowl first. Majid Hussain opened along side the struggling Phil Mann. Phil was rightfully replaced by the young off spinner Matthew French, who struck in his first over with an unplayable delivery that bowled the opener. He completed his spell taking a further wicket, superbly taken by stand-n keeper Paul Whitmore diving down the legside side. A very promising eight over spell from the young man.

Wickets were shared between Abdul-Haadi Zahoor, Brett Hardie, Will Keith and Keeran Sentilnathan.

Exciting prospect, 11 year old left armer Will Keith showed alot of promise in both spells and finally took his deserved first senior wicket, caught in close by Brett. He also had a spectacular direct hit run out from fine leg.

Corley finished on a competitive 212, largely thanks to a 64* from the gloriously bearded Aussie, Allen and 55 from E Xtras.

Moment of the innings was debut keeper, Paul Whitmore, clattering in to the stumps and ending up on his back... sorry Paul.

In reply, Vee Udeshi and Phil got us off to a decent start before Vee holed out for 11, Phil followed for 13, Paul Whitmore made 24. In came Keeran, who flew out of the blocks hitting 4 sixes in the same over. He was finally caught on the boundary for 37 entertaining runs. Will Keith looked organised and got off the mark with a beautifully timed straight drive boundary, he was dismissed for 6. Brett Hardie showed his class and was unbeaten on 53 be for he retired not out. Jason John hit two sumptuous boundaries in his 8 run cameo.

A Captain's innings of 24 from John Keith saw us home, as the Zahoor father and son duo fell. Matthew French (2*) in at the end saved Brett Hardie having to return.

Bablake won by 2 wickets in a very competitive and well spirited game, fitting of the occasion.

Viranchi's Mother Aparna Jani watched on from the boundary, when informing her of the result, she replied.

'Aah - that is a great result to the fantastic game and surely Viranchi would be pleased with that 😊💐

Coming over yesterday was so surreal for me and brought back so many fond memories about Viranchi’s love for the club and the time he spent there on the grounds practicing and learning the game of cricket 🏏'

To top off a wonderful, division winning season, we are proud to announce that Arden Sunday Captain James Morgan has been selected to play in this prestigious fixture.

Wicket Keeper/ batsman James has amassed 637 Arden runs, including three centuries and and a further two half centuries at a staggering average of 212.33 this season and fully deserves this recognition.
