Here are 5 sixths of our Sunday A team, playing away at Lime Tree this morning. Ranging in ages from 18 to over 80, the team currently sits second in Division 2 in the Coventry Sunday league.

Danny (right), and Trev (with the hat) are also currently ranked first and second place in the division averages (a method used for ranking the performance of all 72 players, across all clubs).

There are 7 teams in this division, and 3 divisions altogether.

The crown green in Spencer Park is now reopen but only for existing Albany Bowls Club members to practice. Practice must be undertaken according to our guidelines. These conditions are laid out to fit within the guidance provided by the national governing body for crown green bowls, the BCGBA.

Bowling is only allowed if you have prebooked a practice slot, if you use your own equipment, and for very small groups according to the rules laid out. Hand sanitizer is provided. Further details on the rules and how to book have been sent to all club members, and more info is provided on the notice fixed to the gate.

Stay safe everyone.

We have had a few enquiries, so just putting it out there that we are constantly reviewing how global events will impact the coming bowls season.

There is a league meeting between all Coventry and District clubs, and a County committee meeting on Monday 23rd March. We anticipate being able to give more guidance after those meetings.

We are monitoring the government, Sport England and BCGBA advice.

Meanwhile, here's a nice picture of a bear on our green to make you all feel better. 😎

Both greens in Spencer Park were given a good cut this week and look great for it. πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

The first green (top photo) will have a new path laid inside the hedging in the next week. This will really help our competitive matches because for the first time team mates and spectators will be legitimately inside the hedge, not outside. Fingers crossed the weather and other conditions are fine for this work.

The second green (the one with wire fencing and an as-yet-unestablished hedge) has been left with a much longer grass length for now. This is to hopefully let the grass reestablish after last years' summer heat. We have plans to apply for grants this year to help fund new gutters for this second green.

Both greens should also get tining, seeding and top-dressing treatment in this coming week ready for the start of the season.

This is how many matches our 9 teams will play during the 2020 bowls season. 😳😳😳
