Migi’s Report:

This week’s game took us to Bablake Playing Fields for the last time this season to take on Nottingham 1s. After winning the toss again (winning streak!!) I decided to bowl first. Emma and Orla started us off with a tight opening spell of bowling conceding only 26 in the first powerplay. Leo and I then came on; I picked up 3 wickets and Leo supported from the other end with some strong bowling. Pippa, Beth and Maya followed, continuing to put pressure on the Nottingham batters. Beth picked up another wicket with Priyasha taking an impressive catch. Emma and Orla came back on picking up one and two wickets respectively in an impressive second spell of bowling that was crucial in dismissing some of Nottingham’s top run scorers.I came on at the end, finishing the innings a few balls early by taking the final two wickets. Gabi finished the day with 3 wonderful caught behinds (two off Orla and one off me).This left Nottingham on 159 all out off 29.3 overs.

Isla and Emma started the chase looking comfortable and set with Isla hitting some cracking fours and Emma supporting her with a series of strong shots. Unfortunately, a series of quick dismissals slowed the chase, and despite a tidy lower-order contribution from Alice, who hit two impressive fours, we finished on 101–9 from our 30 overs.

While not the result we had hoped for, there were plenty of positives to take from the game, with some strong individual and team performances throughout:
• FIELDER OF THE DAY: Priyasha - for some incredible diving stops and an impressive catch
• BATTER OF THE DAY: Emma - for a valuable knock hitting some strong shots and helping to steady the chase early on.
• BOWLER OF THE DAY/ PLAYER OF THE DAY: Me (making good use of my power) - after finishing with 5-18 off 5.3 overs
• DOTD (and proud owner of the beautiful rubber duck Richard for the week): Pippa - for attempts to scam the team

A positive team performance with lots to build on - looking forward to taking on our last game of the season!

Migi’s Report:

Charvi, once again started our day with a wonderful poem before we made the short trip down to Loughborough to take on their first team. For the first time this season, I won the toss and chose to field. Orla and Emma opened the bowling well, going for just 31 in the powerplay. Leo and I then came on providing the early breakthroughs, each removing one of the openers. Charvi and Pippa then joined the attack, picking up three wickets between them. These included an incredible diving catch at point by Leo off Charvi’s bowling, as well as Pippa claiming her first BUCS wicket. Orla, Emma and I then came back on to see us to the end. Emma picked up a wicket with Isla taking another difficult catch at point and Orla took three wickets including an incredible delivery to bowl out their top run scorer. This left Loughborough 173-9 off their 30 overs.

Isla and Emma opened the batting seeing off the opening bowlers skillfully before Gabi and Leo took over playing a crucial role in making the chase alive and competitive. Gabi put on a crucial 41* hitting 3 incredible fours and running aggressively between the wickets while Leo contributed a quick 26 hitting 4 exceptional fours. With a couple of smaller contributions, we finished on 104-6 off our 30 overs.

On to individual awards:
BOWLER OF THE DAY: Orla - an exceptional spell of bowling at the end under pressure ending with 3 wickets
FIELDER OF THE DAY: Leo - for a series of good pieces of fielding including her an exceptional diving catch at point
BATTER OF THE DAY: Gabi - for a knock that played a crucial role in the run chase, ending on 41*
PLAYER OF THE DAY: Leo - for her invaluable contributions with the ball, the bat and in the field.
DOTD (and proud owner of the beautiful rubber duck Richard for the week): Pippa - for a questionable fielding decision

This was an all round strong team performance and I am excited for our next game!

Our Charities and Tour Officers, Beth and Claire took over as social secretaries for charity circle! We raised funds for , a charity we have supported for years💪 We bought each other outfits from charity shops and let’s just say some people clearly had better taste than others…

Migi’s match report:

Today’s game was at home on Bablake Playing Fields, where we were greeted by one of the only spells of sunshine we saw all day. After losing the toss for the fourth time in a row, Oxford put us into bat first. After a tidy start from Isla, hitting some cracking fours through the covers, we lost a series of wickets in quick succession. A strong stint at the end by Charvi, supported by me and Pippa, brought the team’s overall score to 72 all out.

After a lot of running covers on and off, we finally started our second innings — not before some intense rounds of one-hand one-bounce in the changing rooms. DLS meant Oxford were now chasing 59 runs. Orla and Emma opened the bowling well in difficult windy and wet conditions before handing over to Ada and me. Ada bowled exceptionally, picking up a wicket and going at only 3.33 an over. Leo and Alice also bowled well at the end, but unfortunately Oxford were able to chase down the score, finishing on 60–1.

While not the result we had hoped for, there were still plenty of positives — not including the fact that I am exceptional at one-hand one-bounce:

• BATTER OF THE DAY: Charvi — played some exceptional shots, supported the end of our innings, and made us feel like we were still in the game when things were looking tough
• BOWLER OF THE DAY: Ada — the pace, swing, and carry were exceptional and consistently caused Oxford’s batters problems
• FIELDER OF THE DAY: Alice — your commitment in the field was amazing and the catch you took was incredibly impressive
• PLAYER OF THE DAY: Pippa — not an easy game to debut in, but still provided a tidy contribution with the bat and remained an energetic presence in the field
• DOTD: Helen — the number of aggressive shots we saw in one-hand one-bounce was shocking

Plenty of positives today and excited for our next game!
