Saturday we had 2 lads representing SMA both stepping into their first amateur mma fights on
1st we had .j stepping up for a Amateur b class fight. This lad has been training with us for 9/10 months now and in that small amount of time he has grown so much as a fighter. From start to finish george pushed the pace with his striking staying calm and composed not rushing in landing his shots and resetting, he secured takedowns in 2nd & 3rd rounds keeping full control and keeping heavy in top position and finishing his opponent with a armbar in the 3rd round.
The change in how this lad fights over the last 4 months has been unreal going from his charity fight in April to his 1st amateur fight on Saturday, he has put in the work to get the win on Saturday and it showed in his performance and i couldn’t be happier for the lad.
Next up we had AKA “the 5ft gorilla” steping up for his 1st Amateur mma fight.
We knew from the start we had a hard test luke being so short for his weight and his opponent being 6ft. But luke went in there unfazed and gave it everything.
In the 1st round luke came out strong working his way in from body to head and finishing with low calf kicks, after a few calf kicks it was starting to effect his opponent, luke continued the pressure landing big body shots and hooks over the top. He managed to get take down and secure the top position before the round ended.
2nd round his opponent came back strong landing nice long straight shots making it hard for luke to work his way in and after moving around so much in the 1st round luke started to gas and shot for a takedown but had no energy left to finish it and his opponent defended and got the 2nd round TKO with ground and pound.
No matter what luke showed heart in there going up against a very hard challenge to deal with the height difference and a good opponent from a very good team, but he will build up from this fight and come back stronger ready to get the W on the next one.
