🎣 What a day! Our biggest Try Fishing event yet! 🎣

What an amazing day at Cotgrave Country Park for our third Try Fishing day — and what a fantastic turnout!

Despite being a little short on volunteers today, we welcomed over 50 people who came along to have a go at fishing. 😲🎣

We think we managed to get every person catching a fish, which is something we're absolutely delighted with! There were plenty of roach, perch and gudgeon coming out throughout the day, and hopefully a few new anglers caught the fishing bug along the way. 🐟

We were actually so busy helping everyone get fishing that we barely had time to take any pictures! 😂 If you took any photos while you were with us today, please feel free to share them in the comments — we'd love to see them and it would be great to have some memories from the day.

A massive thank you to everyone who came along, and especially to the volunteers who gave up their time to help make the day happen. With such a huge turnout, it was certainly a busy one — but seeing so many people enjoying themselves and discovering fishing made it all worthwhile.

These events are exactly what we hoped to achieve when we started rebuilding Cotgrave Angling Club: getting more people in the local community involved in fishing and enjoying our fantastic lake.

And the good news is, we're already planning another Try Fishing day before too long! 🎣 So if you missed out today, or you simply fancy another go, keep an eye on the page for details.

🎣 What a fantastic first Try Fishing Day! 🎣

What a brilliant day at Cotgrave Country Park for our very first public Try Fishing event! 🙌

We were kept busy for the whole session, with plenty of budding anglers having a go and, most importantly, having a great time.

There were plenty of fish coming out too, including roach, perch and gudgeon 🐟 — hopefully we've inspired a few new anglers to give fishing a go!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, and to all the volunteers from the club who helped make the day such a success. ❤️

This is exactly what we want Cotgrave Angling Club to be about: getting people outdoors, enjoying the water and giving fishing a try.

We can't wait to do it again! 🎣💙

🎣 TRY FISHING THIS SATURDAY! 🎣

Fancy giving fishing a go? This Saturday 15th August, Cotgrave Angling Club will be at Cotgrave Country Park from 10am–1pm giving local kids the chance to have a go at fishing! 🐟🎣

Never held a fishing rod before? No problem! Our volunteers will be on hand to show youngsters the basics and hopefully help them catch a fish or two. 😊

📍 Cotgrave Country Park

We're running our Try Fishing session alongside the Friends of Cotgrave Country Park (FoCCP) Kids Fun Day, so there'll be plenty happening around the park and it's a great opportunity to come along and enjoy the day.

👉 Please note: the Try Fishing session is organised separately by Cotgrave Angling Club. It is taking place at the same time as the FoCCP event, but is not part of or in conjunction with the FoCCP Kids Fun Day.

So if you've got a youngster who's ever said "I'd like to try fishing!" — this is their chance! 🎣🐟
Come along, have a go and see what fishing is all about. ❤️

Took these last night after a maintenance session with one of our members (second one this week), tidying up pegs along the south side of the lake. Always enjoy a bit of graft by the lake, we're lucky to have this as our club water.

Just 12 projects across four regions nationwide in the running, and we're one of the three in the running for the East region!!

Please support the club through the AD community fund - we've applied for funding to support with club development and stocking, to grow community participation and support with bringing more people into the sport - and given the rebuilding phase we're in now this would be an invaluable boost for us.

🎣 Please support Cotgrave Angling Club through the Angling Direct Community Fund! 🎣

We’re asking anglers, friends, and supporters to choose Cotgrave Angling Club when voting with your Community Fund token at the checkout in Angling Direct stores, which begins as of Monday 29th June and runs until the end of August.

When you make a purchase in store, you’ll receive a token that you can drop into one of the voting boxes to decide where the funding goes — and your vote could make a real difference to our club.

Cotgrave Angling Club has been through some challenging times and came very close to folding. Thanks to the dedication and commitment of Dave Johnson, who kept the club going before handing over the reins to the new secretary this year, we now have the chance to rebuild and create a stronger future.

At the moment, we’re rebuilding with very limited funds, and support from the Community Fund would help us to:

🎣 Run free fish-in days for the local community, giving more people the chance to experience fishing and growing the club's presence in the local community

♿ Improve our facilities and make the lake more accessible for disabled anglers

🐟 Increase stocking levels and continue improving the quality of our fishery

Work party update:
Nine of us turned out in the heat on Saturday for our planned June work party and hit the pegs on the north side which had been neglected so far this year, as efforts had focussed on rebuilding the accessible platforms and having that section safe and ready for the Ash Lea kids to make their return this summer. A number of the pegs had been encroached by reeds in the water and become almost invisible from the bank - just see the transformation below! Reeds were cut at the lake bed level and a decent swathe taken out to open the peg up, and the access was strimmed and mowed to make getting to them nice and easy. There are 8 fishable pegs along the north side now. We also removed some dumped rubbish including a bike from the water, and mowed and widened the path around the southern side of the lake. Huge thanks to the members that gave their morning up to improve the club for all 💪🏼😁
