ird life abound with buzzards and red kites common to the area, as well as Merlins and Hobbies which occasionally hunt the bats(do they not know they're protected).Woodpeckers,nuthatches and tree creepers have also been spotted along with the normal garden visitors. Bats are nocturnal visitors to the site and can be seen feeding along the hedge lines in the evening(sometimes if you wear a headlamp and stand still the bats swoop in very close to your face snatching the attracted insects) . The site itself is in a small village called,Betws Gwerfil Goch which lies in the valley of the river Alwen which is a tributary of the river Dee.(The Dee valley railway station is 10 mins drive if you like steam trains it makes a great day trip venue.)15 minutes from Llangollen and about an hour to the coast if you like the seaside(Colwyn Bay,Isle of Anglesey,Prestatyn and Rhyl all within day trip range)only an hour from Chester with regular and reliable buses via Wrexham to here if you don't have a car and want to get yourselves and or your mountain bike to the site.
