Come and find out about the activities, clubs and organisations available for young people to enjoy in Corsham at our Get Active! event.

It's on Monday 25 September, at Springfield Campus, from 2-5pm, so parents/carers can come along before school pick-up, and everyone can come along afterwards.

Happy World Badminton Day from Corsham Badminton!

World Badminton Day brings people and communities together to experience fun and inclusive badminton through a variety of active, engaging, and innovative badminton events. These events will take place globally over the same period of time. While events may range in size, location, and focus; the common theme to celebrate and promote badminton will be shared by all.

Established on 05 July 1934 with nine founding Member Associations. In recognition of this significant date in badminton’s history, World Badminton Day will be celebrated annually on 05 July!

Monday 30th January saw Corsham playing Freshford at home.

FUN FACT - On January 30th 1982, the first computer virus was released "into the wild"... similar to how Corsham's A's were released onto an unexpeting Freshford Team while in their home territory.

Corsham, with a late substitute, managed to come away with a great 8-1 win against Freshford. With a steady set of 8 games and a closely fought 1 that went to Freshford. Well played to all of Corshams players, Jeremy & Nigel, Amy (the super sub) & Tim, Peter and Lewis.

26.01.23 Corsham Away VS Warminster School Smashers in the KO Cup.

"The fourth and final match for CBC teams this week has culminated in an away win in the KO Cup (1st Round) against Warminster School Smashers. Their chilly venue and the longer drive out to the far corner of the county did not detract from our commitment to the task in front of us. A team comprised of four students & two teachers made them the underdogs against an experienced Corsham squad who had to limit Warminster to less 13 points per end. Although some pre-match coaching by Olympic badminton silver medallist Gail Emms gave Warminster some inspiration, they fell short of the points required. So Corsham go through to the next round where a big fish awaits us. Thanks to Sally for playing through the pain, Debra for playing AGAIN, Duane & Tom, Clarence & Steve"

Corsham Wilson Lee Team tackled the elements on Tuesday 17th with a cup match against Laverstock.

Captians comments:

'Our success continues in the Wilson Lee trophy. With all making the lengthy journey down to Salisbury, thankfully avoiding any ice and rain to play Laverstock. Battling a strong team and a slippy floor, it all went down to the final game. Tim and Deb taking both final sets to win the match 10-8 overall. Fran managed to break a racket and then replace them with some new ones before we left the sports hall, efficient work. Well done team on a solid performance! We have our rivals up next in the semi-final, bring on Chippenham!'

Corsham's B Team are underway in 2023 with their first match against Bradford Penmoor.

Captains comments:

"The B Team has got off to a good start to 2023 with a win against Bradford Penmoor. The third Monday of January is nowadays referred to as Blue Monday (the most depressing day of the year!), so the omens may not have been good after our recent run of consecutive defeats. We welcomed Matt for his first Doubles B Team match of the season and Jules came in for Dave. However, Bradford fought hard throughout and after seven games played they were 4-3 up and set to take the match. But not fazed we found reserves of tenacity to clinch the final two games needed to win. Well played all - Fran & Tom; Seb & Jules, Matt & Steve."

Monday 12th saw Corsham away at Freshford for their final levels match before the Christmas break.

With a depleted Freshford side and Corsham picking up 3 points straight off of farther Christmas's sleigh it was a nice early Christmas present for the Corsham pairs. This said, Freshford still put up a good fight and with a rather fitting Chrismas song, it went a little like this.

On the twelfth day of Christmas, my Badminton Team sent to me,
Twelve players playing,
Eleven smashes smashing,
Ten squeeky shoes,
Nine flick serves,
Eight forced errors,
Seven swear words,
Six Corsham players,
FIVE broken strings,
Four backhand clears,
Three dodgy calls,
Two tubes of shuttles,
And an overall good result for the Team!!!!

Corsham Levels A saw their first match for the month of December on the 2nd against Frome.... 2 weeks on from their last match against them.

This is no Deja vu... or maybe it is!? However, this time Corsham had a slightly different Team pulling in some key players. Sadly, the night was not ours but still managed to come away with a couple of points and some tough and close games overall. Well done to all that played and special thanks to Amy & Fran who came in as our super subs!

Corsham B's last match in November was against Bradford Penmoor on the 30th November.

Captians comments "This week Poppy came into the fray as us Doubles Bs went on our travels to face Bradford Penmoor. To tinker or not to tinker...? As we were not at full-strength, it seemed an opportunity to try something different: Steve & Poppy, Tom & Clarence and Dave & Seb. Despite some hard-fought games & a tricky venue, we were only able to bring back one point and now look forward to a brace of home matches coming up in December. Thanks to all who played."
