It's been a month since I've been able to properly practise.
I've continued teaching, but I've been carrying an injury that has made even some of the simplest postures surprisingly difficult.
For the last couple of weeks, Warrior 2, a pose I normally spend a lot of time in, has been one of them.
It would have been easy to think that if I couldn't practise in the way I wanted to, there wasn't much point.
But yoga has reminded me of something I often say to my students:
It doesn't matter how long you've been away from the mat.
A week.
A month.
A year.
It's always okay to come back and begin again.
Some days the practice is strong and energetic.
Some days it's simply showing up, moving in a way that feels possible, connecting breath to movement and taking care of yourself.
Both count.
In fact, sometimes the second one is the harder practice.
As classes start back up after half term, if you've been meaning to return to yoga, this is your reminder that you don't need to wait until you feel fitter, stronger or more flexible.
Just come back as you are.
